Golden threads, embroidered in Albania, 1800s ✨✨ Woman’s coat with hanging sleeves, silk velvet embroidered with metal thread and trimmed with metal braid and cord. Layers of intricate silver and gold cords weave through this red silk velvet coat, adorned with handmade buttons and coral beads for a touch of opulence. The ground of this red silk velvet coat has been divided into sections by rows of silver cord that alternate with thinner gold ones. These encircle the opening, which gives access to a generous pocket on either side of the coat. It is almost impossible to see the red velvet beneath the convoluted lines of metal thread that ooze into every corner, rather like the creeping tendrils of a weed feeling its way through gaps and filling the available space. Two colours of metal thread have been used. They were made by winding flat metal strips around a yellow silk core: small amounts of a reddish or coppery gold outline the silver cords while the rest of the embroidery is worked with glittery yellow gold. Dua Lipa is pulling double duty on tomorrow’s show of SNL as host and musical guest! She follows in the footsteps of fellow talented Albanian comedian, actor, and musician, John Belushi, one of the original cast members of Saturday Night Live when it first aired in 1975. Dua Lipa is serving as both the host and musical guest on this week’s episode of the long-running sketch show, marking the first time she will host “SNL” after previously appearing as the musical guest in 2018 and 2020. #DuaLipa #SNL #Albanian Albanian Institute New York

Petrit Halilaj brings home memories to the Met’s Roof Garden. For the artist's first major project in the United States, Petrit Halilaj has transformed The Met Roof with a sprawling sculptural installation. Amid war in Kosova, Halilaj was displaced to a refugee camp in Albania as a teenager. There, he was encouraged to draw by a group of Italian psychologists who visited the site. For Halilaj, art became both a creative outlet and a means of self-preservation: drawing mountainous landscapes and soldiers holding guns was a way to process his tumultuous situation. He’s consistently returned to those sketches as an adult, at times enlarging them to form new artworks. Halilaj's work is deeply connected to the recent history of his native country, Kosova, and the consequences of cultural and political tensions in the region. After a formative period in Italy, where he studied art at the Accademia di Brera in Milan, he moved to Berlin in 2008, where he still lives and works. His projects encompass a variety of media, including sculpture, drawing, poetry, and performance. Petrit Halilaj, Abetare (detail), 2024, The Iris and B.
