The best ideas often come from filling a need you see is missing based on your own personal experience. Last month, I watched Brittany Melhado, MSIE, one of our GuideWell employee innovation competition winners, present at the national AHIP conference. Brittany’s personal experiences as a new mom, along with that of her innovation partner Cristina Batista, shaped the idea to help support other moms who may also be at risk for depression and postpartum anxiety. Alongside GuideWell Innovation team members Susan Jang and Moses Adedoyin, and partners Canopie and Aeroflow Health, they took a big step forward in addressing maternal mental health equity by successfully bringing to life an innovative solution using a combination of digital triage via the Canopie maternal mental health app with targeted and personalized outreach by Florida Blue registered nurses, behavioral health specialists, and social workers. Brittany and Cristina's idea produced exceptional results. I am proud of how they are helping new moms and I applaud their drive to make a meaningful change in the lives of some of our most vulnerable members.
