Over the past week or so, there has been historic flooding in Vermont. Not a place you usually think of when you hear about flooding, but with the combination of intense rainstorms, and our state's steep, rocky slopes sending water into the river valleys where people live, it caused devastation in many areas across the state - particularly in our capital city of Montpelier. The Washington Post called it a 1-in-100 year storm. People immediately jumped into action to help their neighbors, starting food and clothing collections, setting up relief funds, and rescuing stranded community members via kayak. Even the roads to our Governor's house were flooded and he had to hike out on a VAST trail to meet up with his team. Vermonters are strong. We're a small but mighty state that isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves and help a neighbor out. We are resourceful and resilient. It will take time to recover from this storm, but if anyone can come out stronger on the other side, it's Vermonters.
