We are at Fastmarkets’ 16th Lithium Supply and Battery Raw Materials Conference this week on the heels of our successful manufacturing of battery-grade lithium hydroxide from Nevada claystone and U.S. Department of Energy Jennifer Granholm’s visit last week. Today, alongside a panel of industry leaders and voices, ABTC CEO Ryan Melsert will share perspectives on the need for all-party support to diminish reliance on foreign entities and to build a strong, new energy economy for the U.S. Creating a resilient, secure, and sustainable battery metals supply chain for North America takes support from both political parties. Tonight is Fastmarkets’ inaugural Voltas Awards which recognizes and celebrates pioneering companies, leaders, and innovators who have demonstrated excellence and groundbreaking achievements across the battery raw materials supply chain, and those who are paving the way to a more sustainable future. We’re in the running for “Best New Project,” and are honored to share the spotlight with other first movers in the industry. About the Voltas Awards: https://lnkd.in/g8PJUrYh

We were thrilled to have hosted U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Jennifer Granholm and members of her staff at our commercial lithium-ion battery recycling facility earlier this week. The tour follows our recent announcement of its first successful manufacturing of lithium hydroxide from its first-of-kind, Nevada-based claystone integrated demonstration plant that was constructed with support from a grant from the U.S. DOE. “I’m very proud of our team for constructing and commissioning ahead of schedule our multi-tonne per day demonstration system for the manufacturing of battery grade lithium hydroxide from our own Nevada-based sedimentary claystone resource,” stated American Battery Technology Company CEO Ryan Melsert. “It was an especially proud moment to have Secretary Granholm come onsite to tour this demonstration facility, to review our progress on scaling this technology even further to our commercial-scale refinery with support from an additional U.S. DOE grant, and to have so many of our strategic partners and stakeholders onsite to galvanize our path forward and align to establishing a true US closed-loop battery supply chain.” Thank you, Secretary Jennifer Granholm, Thomas Burns, Andrew Clinger, Jessica Diss and Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Jon Dunham, Joni Eastley, Mridul Gautam, PhD, Brady Hays, Benjamin R Knudsen, Jackie Pierrott, and Kristen Wahl. https://prn.to/4eveD95

I am very thankful to have had the opportunity last week to participate in a truly inspiring session with circular economy changemakers lead by Pyxera Global at #Circularity24, convened by GreenBiz Group. Working with community-focused, public-private partnerships is paramount to closing the loop for a truly sustainable, domestic battery metals supply chain in North America. Our industry is at the beginning of this work, and having the opportunity to collaboratively co-create the processes, systems, and infrastructure that may facilitate the removal of barriers around cost and collection for consumers is not only necessary, but it is mandatory for a truly successful, accessible recycling value chain. Through responsible program demonstrations that test scalability, American Battery Technology Company is working to set new standards in our industry that lead with our commitment to and accountability for social and environmental responsibilities. As part of building out this new energy economy and manufacturing sector in the U.S., we have the opportunity and responsibility to utilize this transition to electrification to create new jobs, and cultivate improved and more equitable access to these jobs. We are very excited to support the efforts of the newly launched Circular Supply Chain Coalition and to be an integral part of the great work underway to build out the reverse logistics section of the battery metals circular supply chain in the U.S. For a great #Circularity24 recap with highlights from our session, check out Giorgio Kaldor's article in Materia Rinnovabile - Renewable Matter. ** CIRCULARITY 24: ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA THERE WAS CIRCULAR ECONOMY ** After three intense days of work, the 2024 edition of #Circularity ended on Friday, the 24th of May. This year, however, the story of the premier circular economy conference in the #US begins differently. The perfect opening is the fairy-tale phrase "once upon a time." 🍀 While this expression is typically used for stories with happy endings, that's not why it was chosen. In the case of #Circularity24, "once upon a time" signifies a turning point, because, at least in intention, the old idea of the #circulareconomy seems to be a thing of the past in the United States. 📌 From the stage in #Chicago, the message comes through loud and clear: from now on, circularity should no longer be just about #plastic, sustainable #packaging, and #reputation. From #criticalrawmaterials and the launch of new coalitions to #textiles, from #soil regeneration to public policies, the current focus is on a different model of the circular economy, one that is more aware of the limits and impacts of the #transition, while also paying attention to #Europe. A model that aims for global #supply chains to evolve and open, transforming into supply #networks. A model where prosperity and communities advance hand in hand. But, above all, a model where #finance embraces its role as a catalyst without hesitation. The reason is soon stated: to sum up the numerous interventions, innovation and pilot projects can emerge anywhere, but #scalability requires #collaboration. 📢 My reportage from Chicago for Materia Rinnovabile - Renewable Matter is now available here: https://lnkd.in/dm8m6-h4 With the voices of: 📍 Nic Esposito, Founder of Circa Systems 📍 Jennifer Carrigan, Associate Director for Sustainability at Pyxera Global 📍 Tiffiany Moehring, Head of Communications and Marketing at American Battery Technology Company 📍 Brandon Tidwell Principal Global Citizenship & Sustainability at FedEx 📍 Manuel Carmona Yebra , Deputy Head of Section for Global Issues and Innovation of the European Union delegation to the US 📍 Madelyn Morgan , Conservation Program Coordinator for the City of Austin Feel free to share it and stay tuned for more exciting updates coming straight from the city!
