About us

The 4A’s was established in 1917 to promote, advance, and defend the interests of our member agencies, employees and the advertising and marketing industries overall. We empower and equip our members to confidently navigate the ever-changing ecosystem of the agency world. We ensure they remain relevant, are positioned to compete, and have the resources to thrive and grow. With a focus on advocacy, talent and creating impact, the organization serves 600+ member agencies across 1,200 offices, which help direct more than 85% of total U.S. advertising spend. The 4A’s includes the 4A’s Benefits division, which insures more than 160,000 employees; the government relations team, who advocate for policies to support the industry; and the 4A’s Foundation, which advocates for and connects multicultural talent to the marketing industry by fostering a culture of curiosity, creativity and craft to fuel a more equitable future for the industry.

It also marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which removed barriers to inclusion in society. This year's theme is “We Want a Life Like Yours” representing the Disability Community's desire to live an inclusive life without unnecessary obstacles. This theme invites us to be advocates and remove barriers for a more inclusive future. Join us in promoting awareness and amplifying the experiences of people with disabilities.     At the final awards ceremony of Cannes Lions, the industry's gender imbalance was evident. Alltold's analysis revealed that 69% of the award recipients identified on stage were men. Cindy Gallop, founder and CEO of MakeLoveNotPorn, stated, “It doesn’t take AI for anyone to look around us and go, ‘Nothing’s changing in the industry on this front.’” Marla Kaplowitz, CEO of the 4A's, offered hope: “According to The 4A’s Diversity survey—we are seeing an increase in female representation overall, accounting for 61.22% of all surveyed last year. The industry is continuing to make inroads in diversifying the talent mix but we can always do better.” Let’s commit to fostering inclusive environments and ensuring representation at all levels.     It’s Pride Month and the 4A’s and 4A’s Foundation is happy to announce our collaboration with Do the WeRQ. Do the WeRQ is a community and platform with a clear and important mission: to increase LGBTQ+ creativity, representation, and share of voice in the marketing and advertising industry. In pursuit of this mission, Do the WeRQ creates and leads a range of initiatives including research and data solutions, insightful programming and networking opportunities including with  some of the industry's most talented and proudly out thought leaders. Do the WeRQ just launched a historic survey for LGBTQ + Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) -  and we need your support spreading the word to the lead of the LGBTQ + ERG at your organization.
