🌟 Member story: Pinar Kaya 🌟 Today, we let our community member Pinar Kaya speak, who stands for the many 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants in Germany. Here’s what she says about… …her family: My grandparents immigrated from Turkey to help build Germany after it was destroyed during the second world war. Coming from a rural village in the north of Turkey, the journey to Germany must have been an exceptional challenge. …education and the will to “make it”: My parents, especially my mother, never got tired of teaching me about the importance of education. So, even though I did not have the same conditions as my German peers at school, I was the one with the best grades in class. The difference between many of them and me was that I was driven with a hunger to "make it". So, I did what my parents always taught me to do: I studied, I read, I explored my curiosity. …mentors and networks: Luckily, I found mentors along the way, one of them being my German teacher, who saw what I was capable of and enabled me to apply successfully for a scholarship (START-Stipendium). Getting this scholarship and connecting with other driven people with a migration background pushed me even further. It also showed me the magic a network offers. I believe that we are stronger together. We as humans need other humans to thrive. Helping each other to climb the ladder to whatever goal we individually have is an act that is in our human core. Pinar is a medical doctor with a background in business administration. “I see myself as a connector between these two fields and have a strong motivation to build a plattform that enables patients to optimize their nutrition with the help of smart devices and precision medicine. Nutrition and Tech is the combination I am deeply passionate about!”

A couple of days ago, we had the pleasure of hosting an insightful workshop on the legal aspects of fundraising and VC deal teams in collaboration with Osborne Clarke in Berlin. 💫 Our attendees had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of startup financing options, including loans, convertible loans, and equity deals. We covered key topics such as term sheets, company governance, and investor agreements, focusing on liquidation preferences, dilution protection, and vesting. 📈 The engaging Q&A sessions and dynamic networking with fellow 2hearties and the Osborne Clarke team made this event truly impactful. Today, we introduce Milena Mendes, who tells us how she feels about being a migrant in Germany: “Moving to Germany almost two years ago in pursuit of a better life and to pursue my master's degree marked a significant transition in my life. Despite the excitement and opportunities that awaited, the journey wasn't without its challenges. 🔸 The language barrier proved to be a formidable obstacle, and even today, I find myself grappling with it. 🔸 Having spent the majority of my life in Brazil, where my dad's Portuguese heritage influenced a blend of Portuguese and Brazilian traditions, the move to Germany meant leaving behind the familiar comforts of home – the vibrant culture, delicious food, warm climate, and the irreplaceable company of friends and family. 🔸 Adapting to a new country, and its customs, and trying to integrate into a different society has been a continuous process, filled with both moments of homesickness and the determination to build a fulfilling life in my adopted home. I have come to enjoy my time in Germany, appreciating the differences, even though the struggle with the language and bureaucratic aspects persist.” With a Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering and a current pursuit of a Master's in Digital Marketing, Milena has cultivated a versatile skill set that spans both technical and creative realms. It's a wrap - our very first 2hearts meetup in Hamburg was a great success! 💫 40 community members got together to discuss with Zamina Ahmad, founder of shades&contrast, and Emil Beck, founder of Remazing. Here are the key takeaways for entrepreneurs: 👉 Ask for help. There are more people willing to help than you might think. We're more than happy to have such a supportive community at 2hearts. 👉 Speaking of networks: they can be a huge game changer. Especially for migrant founders or those who don't come from a family of entrepreneurs - join one or build your own! 👉 Mentoring is great, but mentee and mentor have to be a perfect match. Find the right mentor for your specific topic or challenge, and you will unlock the full potential. 👉 Luck is no coincidence. Take your chance, seize the opportunities and increase the likelihood for “being lucky” by preparing, researching or hanging out with the right people. We all enjoyed this fun night full of discussions, learnings, networking, drinks and a wonderful hummus bar. This certainly was not our last Hamburg meetup.
