You've poured your heart into a writing project. How do you handle feedback that changes your work?

✍🏿 If someone says that it is easy to hear criticism of the writings, they are lying. It takes time to get over them. Writers should give themselves this time. 📚It is a fact that writers live by words. Every word has meaning and importance for them. Many reviews are unfair and based on the critics' narrow-mindedness and lack of education. 👀But there is an important point. If a critic has the necessary literacy, we should examine everything that was said by preserving the existence of our own words and written content. He is actually a contributor to better content quality.

When I receive feedback that changes my work, I remind myself that it's part of the creative process. I take a step back and objectively evaluate the suggestions, recognizing that constructive criticism can enhance my project. I stay open-minded and consider the feedback as a tool for improvement, not a personal critique. If the changes align with my vision, I embrace them; if not, I thoughtfully discuss alternatives. Ultimately, I remember that the goal is to create the best possible work, and incorporating feedback is a valuable step towards achieving that.

If the client would like us to change the script for valid reasons we should certainly consider the same .We should see things from his point of view and we should not hesitate to do it just because we poured our heart into it.

Admittedly it may take us sometime to process the fact that the client has not accepted our version which we prepared passionately. Still we should pause for a while and critically analyse his views and check why has he asked for changes to be done. Once we understand this keeping emotions aside, we will be in a better position to come up with what the client wants.

Frequently, you'll get a combination of little and large recommendations. Sort the changes according to importance to your work. Even if they take more time to complete, start with the changes that will have the biggest impact on your work. It's critical to strike a balance between the criticism and your personal project vision. Although you don't have to take every suggestion, don't discount them without thinking about how they might improve your work.

We should look at this project as a teamwork because both the parties are going to benefitted by it . We should consider and communicate each other's point of view and only then the final outcome will be perfect.

Revision and editing is important. But before starting it, take a break and leave the work for a few hours. Then come back and start revising and you will find points where improvements are needed easily.

One way that has helped me is to consider your client's end goal as the "point" for writing the piece and yourself as a medium. This helps separate emotions of hurt and lets you not take the feedback personally. Because honestly, it's never personal.

One thing that happens very often is that the writer becomes very attached emotionally to his/her writing. He made it a part of himself so that criticism of his writing was often felt to be an act of hurting him as well. A looser emotional closeness is to position the writing as another creature separate from the author. However, relationships like this are sometimes still very emotional. Many writers view their writing as their baby, which they love very much and protect very seriously. Criticism is seen as an act of attacking the baby. The relationship between the author and his writing is perhaps better placed as a relationship between two different and equal beings. The writer must let go of his writing to be 'himself.'
