I see today that most people are focused on learning skills like Excel, Communication, programming languages, etc. However, they miss out on working the most important skill there is and that is "Listening". Listening seems quite an easy activity however, there is a lot deeper meaning to it. Actually, "listening" helps you gain valuable insights on people's core problems/pain points and helps us understand their perception and view. This works with both, the customers and your teams, and actually helps us to empathize with others. This also helps build trust amongst our teams and the customers.

Empathy doesn't mean you have to actually feel the pain of the other person. But to share the feeling of the pain. Empathy can actually help to pacify even the fierce customers as they will understand that you genuinely care for them. As it is rightly said "Consistency is the key to success", consistency in communication is vital for building and maintaining long term professional relationships. This doesn't mean we have to communicate every now and then, but communicating at intervals or as and when need arises helps build trust and empathy towards people. Also, it is very very important to listen in order to maintain the consistency in communication because communication is a 2 way proposition and won't be consistent if it's not that way.

It is true that not everyone is driven by money. There are people who get motivated through positive reinforcements like appreciating their efforts, their way of handling and managing things and celebrating their achievements. Positive reinforcement makes people go out of their way and do things which they never imagined. We can empower people and uplift them by praising them as at times that is what provides them with a push to get over their limitations. It also means, that we share timely feedback with them but being empathetic and guiding. This feedback may not be always positive but sharing it in a way that won't demotivate them will help us go a long way.
