From my perspective it is because of the context of tightening labor markets, new work and digital transformation the we will continue to face a growing need for new and different skills - esp. digital and social. Analysis shows that skill building is the most activated lever for companies to cope with skill gaps in dynamic context.

Personally, I just completed a program offered by Wharton for "AI in business specification", which includes an HR focused model with a number of courses elaborating on how AI can leverage people attraction, retention, development and engagement. From my perspective, there is a huge opportunity for everyone in HR to proactively embrace Tech driven assistance - both driving the back end as well as enabling the front-end: Many tech-skills can easily be democratized to the advantage of HR professionals, from RPA to Mining to gen-AI applications. Tech Savvyness is augmenting the capability of HR to make employees and leaders and customers faster, smarter, and better informed.

Looking at latest research around future skills for the AI based world, I see AI confirmed as a job creator, not because of substituting human skills but because of augmenting it, e.g. in HR in areas such as engagement, attrition, and integrated talent management. It is cognitive skills such as strategic and analytical thinking as well as social skills such as influencing, empathy and networking that will allow best tandem work for human and AI to accelerate innovation and growth.
