Just starting out in Direct Sales?

Sales is fun when you choose to sell the product that you are interested about. If the product you sell is of interest to you, you will read, discuss and master all the aspects about it, this is what will help you pitch the sale better to a prospect. Prospects like sales folks who demonstrate passion about what they sell. If you want to be successful, align yourself with what you like to speak about and see how you will become successful.

When I first started in direct sales 35 years ago I had to learn it myself from pure trial and error and sheer desperation to earn money as an 18 year old in Liverpool... I started reading books like crazy, SPIN selling by Neil Rackham, The Sandler Selling System, Tom Hopkins, Zig Ziglar, Think and Grow Rich and many more... It took me 2 weeks to make my first sale, and 3 months to be financially self sufficient... Then I never looked back, I was successful at every level, eventually sales director for one of the UK's top household name direct sales businesses, leading a team of 500+ sales closers to sales of 102 Million... My no1 piece of advice to you ig you're starting out is this - Find and hire a direct sales coach to teach you!

I chose Avon Products in 2006 An illness forced me to quit my retail job in management (2005) My husband lost his job when the plant he worked at for 26 yrs closed their doors (2005) He was 50 yrs old starting over. I needed to find something to help bring income. I decided on Avon Products because I could make my own hours, work at my own pace. It was an arduous journey that's for sure. It came with frustration, anxiety because I did not have the proper training. I had to think outside the box on my own. It's ok, because in 2 1/2 yrs of sticking it out I became successful for a time. I made title in 2009. I made top seller list in my state 2015-2024. I am proof you can make it on your own merit! Keep Moving Forward is my motto!

Understand where your product of solution has the most value, which type of customer does it give the most value to and why ? Focus your efforts on this Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) to maximise your successes. Understand in this ICP who you will compete with and know as much about your differential value to the customer as you can. Understand and learn how the competition positions their value, how do they position against you etc (the way to do this is to build rapport with prospects and simply ask when t hey mention that competitor - "ah really what do you think of them and us - how do you view the difference?" You can learn a lot from simply earning the right to ask and asking clients/prospects.

Understanding your market is key to any sales person. Every product / service has a market that it can address, as a sales person what you need to know is what problem of theirs will you be solving. Once you know this, please make a pitch accordingly, let it be a simple pitch so that they can understand and connect. Studying the market is very important, please invest your time in this for sure.

This is as important as the business itself, because there is no success in direct sales without knowing your target market like the product itself. Know your Market, identity potential customers, build good customer relationship and leverage every opportunity to expand your sales effectively.

First start with a goal in mind, let's say you start with number of calls a day , check at the end of the week if you are able to achieve it, if not set a realistic one and work towards it. Also size the number of closures you will need to achieve your sales goal. This will help you move in a calculated and realistic for your to achieve your goals.

En las ventas directas, construir relaciones sólidas con los clientes es clave. No solo se vende un producto, sino que se ofrece una experiencia personal y se genera confianza. Interactuar con los clientes, escuchar sus necesidades y brindar soluciones que realmente los ayuden es fundamental. Una experiencia de compra positiva aumenta la probabilidad de negocios repetidos y referencias. Un cliente satisfecho puede convertirse en un defensor de la marca, invaluable para el crecimiento del negocio.

Prospects build relationships with sales folks who they perceive will help them and act as business advisors. To gain that relationship, you need to listen to what they speak, what their needs are and accordingly advice them solutions. This starts to build a positive image of you with your prospective client, they will feel like reaching out to you when they need a solution.

You should build a good customer relationship where a customer can trust you and even advocate your product/brand to buyers. It can only take a satisfied customer to promote a product and increase your sales. Not just about the business, also consider customers welfare, this makes them more comfortable doing business with you.

Continuous Learning is a must if you want to be above your game in sales. Be open to learning new industry trends, this will involve reading articles and also discussing in forums of like minded people. When you learn continuously, you would want to speak about it or write about it, go ahead and contribute in forums and discussions.

Managing time effectively is crucial when starting a career in sales. Prioritize tasks using tools like Trello, and set daily goals. Schedule client meetings and prospecting using Google Calendar. Balance prospecting, client meetings, and administrative duties. Stay organized, avoid multitasking, and allocate time for continuous learning to improve sales techniques and product knowledge.

Starting a career in sales requires perseverance. Rejection is common, but persistence leads to success. Setbacks are learning opportunities; use them to refine your approach. Stay motivated by celebrating small wins and setting achievable goals. Build resilience by maintaining a positive attitude, seeking feedback, and continuously improving your skills. Perseverance is key to long-term success in sales.
