I have been doing video editing for quite a long time now and as far as which software seems the best for me and most of the editors would be Adobe Premiere Pro as it provides professional grade editing tools to the table and is quite fun to use. From Podcasts to Short form videos to Documentary's style video editing I have done all on this software and it never leaves disappoints. Moreover Da Vinci Resolve 18 now's is giving a tough time in terms of usability and features that it has brought in it's latest version and moreover it's totally free as compared to premiere pro.

Features, documentaries, and commercials, all come with different requirements and producers working on high-budget productions will look for a seasoned editor for this kind of job. You should watch masterclasses from editors working in different fields since it will always improve your game, but when it comes to your portfolio, you should focus on showing consistent work in one or two distinct fields. Believe me, you won't even have enough time to edit great projects for all kinds of audiovisual products available nowadays! =)

While building the skills to talk about and effectively communicate you enthusiasm and knowledge, oftentimes you might be interviewing with someone who themselves is not an expert, so don't get overly technical in those situations - simply have a collection of prior work that can do the talking for you.
