By setting up rules at the onset you eliminate issues such as this and can set the stage to foster inclusion (ex: create a rule that everyone shares and contributes). When teaching children we find that they will often attempt to get our attention through their actions. If we play closer attention to them when they are conducting themselves well, and give them less attention when they are making ‘red light’ choices they will learn to naturally choose appropriate behaviour. The same principles work for team members.
