Flipboard Smart Magazines: How to Set up and Use Them

How to Set up a Flipboard Smart Magazine on Mobile

When you want to make Flipboard work for you, the best way to do it is to create a Smart Magazine. Follow these steps to create a Smart Magazine in Flipboard.

1. When you open the Flipboard app, you’re on your For You carousel. From this page, swipe left until you get to What’s Your Passion?

2. Click in the text box that displays What’s Your Passion? And type a keyword that interests you. Alternatively, you can scroll through the list of topics that’s displayed.

3. As you type, a list of available topics is displayed. Choose the one you want to use as the topic of your Smart Magazine.

   

4. The Smart Magazine is created and a Personalize dialog box appears that contains related hashtags you can add to your magazine. Select the topics you want to include and then click Save.

   

5. Start browsing your new Smart Magazine.

How to Change or Delete a Smart Magazine

If at any time you decide you want to change the topics you've included in your Smart Magazine, or even delete it completely, you can do that with just a few taps.

1. Open Flipboard and tap the three dot menu on the right corner of the app.

2. The Edit Home screen appears. Scroll to your magazine and tap Personalize if you want to change the topics included in your magazine. If you want to delete it, select the X.

   You can also grab and hold the two line icon on the right side of the magazine line to move it up or down. This changes the order in which the magazines appear on the content bar at the top of the screen.

3. If you select the X to delete the Smart Magazine, you'll be prompted to confirm you want to delete it.

   If you're just changing topics, tap to add or remove topics and when you're done, tap Save.

   

How to Add a Smart Magazine on Flipboard for Desktop

If you're working with Flipboard for desktop, creating and editing a magazine work slightly differently.

1. Go to the Flipboard website in any web browser and click Edit Favorites in the content bar at the top of the screen.

   

2. In the Edit Favorites dialog box that appears, click Add Favorite.

   

3. A list of topics appears. You can scroll through and select one of those topics or start typing and choose from the list of suggestions that appear as you type.

   

4. Once you've selected a topic a list of subtopics appears. Click to select each of the hashtagged subtopic you want included in the Smart Magazine, and then click Done.

   

5. You'll be taken to the new Smart Magazine, where you can begin reading stories that are tailored to your preferences.

How to Change or Delete a Smart Magazine in Flipboard for Desktop

As with the mobile version of Flipboard, you can decide at any time to change or delete a Smart Magazine.

1. In Flipboard, click your profile icon in the upper right corner.

   

2. In the menu that appears, click Profile.

   

3. On the Profile page, select the Edit (pencil) icon on the Smart Magazine you want to change or delete.

   

4. In the menu that appears, select Delete to delete the Smart Magazine, or Personalize to make changes to your Smart Magazine.

   

5. If you're personalizing or changing your magazine, a new Personal Menu appears. Select or deselect the sub topics you want included (or not) in your magazine. When you're finished editing the Smart Magazine, click Done and your changes will be saved.
