Kelly Curran

Meteorologist

Kelly Curran joined KCRA 3 in March 2024 as the weekend morning meteorologist. You can also catch Kelly on the noon newscast and reporting live in the field.

Curran was born on Groundhog’s Day of all days, destined to be a meteorologist. She grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from Central Michigan University.

She began her career as a meteorologist and reporter at WSEE in Erie, Pennsylvania, where she not only forecast the local weather, but served as a meteorologist for the Caribbean affiliate as well. Then she was off to Madison, Wisconsin, and Springfield, Illinois, before landing in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2015. While in Las Vegas, Curran served as the weekday morning meteorologist for more than six years before transitioning to become the station’s airborne traffic and breaking news reporter and photographer. Having a degree in meteorology is certainly beneficial when you’re spending your days 700 feet above the ground. From the helicopter, Kelly not only covered weather-related events like monsoon storms, flooding and mountain snow, but also traffic collisions, championship parades, festivals, major sporting events, and breaking news.

Curran has experience forecasting weather in the Great Lakes, the Caribbean, the Midwest, the High Desert, and she’s excited for the challenges that Northern California has to offer. She’s really looking forward to spending as much time as possible in LiveTracker 3 and LiveCopter 3.

She lives in Sacramento with her dog, Raina, and her cat, Luna, who are both rescues.
