How to watch the 2024 Paris Olympics: Key dates, times, details on California athletes

The Summer Games are on KCRA 3

START OF THE 2024 PARIS SUMMER OLYMPICS, AND WE’VE HIT THAT MARK. PEOPLE ARE GETTING REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IT, INCLUDING US HERE AT KCRA. SO I WANTED TO SHOW YOU WHAT THE PEOPLE IN OUR SALES AND BUSINESS DEPARTMENTS HAVE DONE. THEY’VE GOT THE WHOLE PARADE OF NATIONS TO GET EVERYBODY EXCITED ABOUT THE OLYMPICS. AND A WHILE BACK THEY ASKED ME IF I COULD GIVE HIM A FOLDER OF OLYMPIC PICTURES FROM OVER THE YEARS. WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE WHAT THEY CREATED WITH IT. IT IS OUTSTANDING. LOOK AT THIS. IT IS A EIFFEL TOWER OF OLYMPIC PICTURES FROM ALL THE DIFFERENT THINGS PEOPLE HERE AT KCRA HAVE DONE TO CELEBRATE THE OLYMPICS. SO WE’VE GOT SOME OF THE PICTURES FROM MY PARTNER AND I TRAVELING TO OLYMPICS FOR KCRA OVER THE YEARS, BUT ALSO A LOT OF THE PEOPLE HERE BACK AT THE STATION WHO ENJOYED THE GAMES FOR WHAT THEY ARE. AND SO WITH THAT, WE ARE GETTING READY FOR THE SUMMER OLYMPICS, AND TONIGHT WE WANT TO GET YOU READY AND GET YOU EXCITED AS WELL. WITH AN OLYMPIC ZONE SPECIAL, WE ARE LOOKING AHEAD TO THE GAMES AND ALSO CELEBRATING CALIFORNIA’S ATHLETES. AND WE’LL START BY GIVING YOU AN IDEA OF WHAT TEAM USA’S ARTISTIC SWIMMERS ARE UP TO THESE DAYS. THEY ARE ONE OF TEN TEAMS NOW TO QUALIFY FOR THE OLYMPICS IN THE TEAM COMPETITION. HAVEN’T DONE THAT SINCE 2008, SO WE HAD A CHANCE TO CATCH UP WITH THE TEAM WHEN THEY WERE TRAINING DOWN IN LOS ANGELES. YOU CAN SEE THAT THEY ARE CHASING GOLD WHILE HIDING FROM THE SUN. THAT IS ALL THAT WHITE CREAM THAT YOU SEE THERE ON THEIR FACE. NEW THIS YEAR. THEY’VE GOT A RULE CHANGE THAT ALLOWS FOR UP TO TWO MEN ON A TEAM THAT’S NEW. SO COMING UP TONIGHT IN AN OLYMPIC ZONE SPECIAL, YOU’LL MEET SOME OF THE OLYMPIC HOPEFULS FROM CALIFORNIA. YOU’LL HEAR ABOUT THEIR JOURNEYS AS THEY GET READY FOR PARIS. AND YOU’LL ALSO HEAR FROM THEIR COACHES ABOUT HOW THEY INSPIRE GREATNESS. WE’LL HAVE A SNEAK PEEK FROM ORGANIZERS WHO ARE GETTING READY FOR THE L.A. OLYMPICS IN 2028, AS WELL. THAT IS ALL COMING UP ON OUR OLYMPIC ZONE SPECIAL. IT’S TONIGHT AT 730 HERE ON KCRA THREE. HEY, DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG HE HAS BEEN WORKING WITH THOSE OTHER SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMERS YOU TALKING ABOUT? YEAH. BILL MAY, SO HE IS 45 YEARS OLD AND HE HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN THE SPORT SINCE HE WAS A KID. BUT HE FOR THE LAST TWO DECADES HAS BEEN PUSHING FOR MEN TO BE ALLOWED TO DO SYNCHRONIZED OR ARTISTIC SWIMMING AGAIN. AND BACK IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY, MEN WERE VERY MUCH A PART OF FORMING THE SPORT. BUT AT SOME POINT PEOPLE MADE THE DECISION THAT MEN SHOULDN’T BE IN THE SPORT. IT’S A REAL REVERSAL WE’VE SEEN OF LIKE THE GENDER WARS AND A LOT OF GAMES. SO NOW THEY’VE MADE THE DECISION THAT, YEAH, YOU CAN HAVE UP TO TWO GUYS ON A TEAM. IT’LL BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW MANY TEAMS TAKE THEM UP ON IT. YOU CAN HAVE TWO MEN ON A TEAM, BUT YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE A MAN ON A TEAM. WOW. NICE LITTLE FACT THERE. THAT’S A GREAT GUY THOUGH.
