Almost 18,000 turkeys donated at 2023 KCRA Turkey Drive
AND THEN AGAIN ON THE ACTUAL RACE DAY AND THOUSANDS OF FAMILIES WILL HAVE A TURKEY ON THE TABLE ALL THANKS TO OUR GENEROUS VIEWERS. AND WE DID HAVE A VIEWER ASK WHAT REALLY HAPPENS TO ALL THOSE TURKEYS FROM THE KCRA 3 TURKEY DRIVE? SO KCRA 3’S LISA GONZALEZ GETS THE FACTS. I CAN SEND HIM SOMETHING. ONE WEEK AGO, THOUSANDS CAME OUT TO THE KCRA 3 TURKEY DRIVE. WE COME EVERY YEAR AND DROP OFF THE TURKEYS. THANKS TO YOUR GENEROSITY, WE COLLECTED NEARLY 18,000 TURKEYS, A RECORD. I JUST FEEL GRATEFUL THAT I CAN COME AND DONATE A TURKEY BACK AT THE STATION. A CALL FROM A CURIOUS VIEWER. THIS QUESTION ALWAYS GETS ASKED AND NO ONE EVER ADDRESSES IT. WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS TO ALL OF THOSE TURKEYS? PLEASE. SOMEBODY. WE ASKED THE QUESTION OF THE SACRAMENTO FOOD BANK WHERE DO ALL THESE TURKEYS GO THAT ARE DONATED BY THE PUBLIC? WE WANTED TO GET THE FACTS ON HOW YOUR DONATED TURKEYS TRAVEL FROM CAL EXPO TO FAMILIES IN NEED. TODAY, WE’RE AT ONE OF OUR DISTRIBUTION SITES FOR THE TURKEY DRIVE KCRA 3 PARTNERS WITH THE SACRAMENTO FOOD BANK AND FAMILY SERVICES. LAST MONTH, WE FED ABOUT 317,000 PEOPLE. THAT’S OUR SECOND HIGHEST NUMBER EVER. THEY HAVE 130 PARTNER AGENCIES THAT HELP THEM DISTRIBUTE ALL THOSE TURKEYS, AND THEY’RE THE ONES WHO GIVE THE FOOD OUT TO THE COMMUNITY ONCE THEY GET IT FROM US. AT THIS SITE IN NORTH HIGHLANDS THIS WEEK, 150 WERE HANDED OUT. IT’S A VERY, VERY BIG DAY FOR US. OUR PLEDGE WAS TO HELP PEOPLE IN SACRAMENTO, IN CALIFORNIA, AND NOW IT’S THE TIME TO GIVE BACK FROM YOUR GROCERY CART INTO THE HANDS OF OTHERS. EVERYBODY FEED THE FAMILY DURING THE SEASON OF GIVING. IT’S DEFINITELY GOING TO HELP FOR SURE. LISA GONZALES KCRA 3 NEWS. SO AGAIN, DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THIS REGION, REALLY HELPING A LOT OF PEOPLE. AND WE JUST WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR HELP. YOU HEARD KEVIN FROM THE FOOD BANK SAY THAT THE NEED IS REALLY SIGNIFICANT RIGHT NOW. WH
