THIS VIDEO IS FROM EARLIER TODAY IN MAXWELL, WHERE THE OWNERS OF LOGSDON’S GROCERY RECEIVED A LARGE ROUND OF APPLAUSE ON THEIR STORE’S FINAL DAY. JAY LOGSDON AND HIS BROTHER TOM WERE SHOCKED THIS EVENING. AS PEOPLE, YOU’RE SEEING ON YOUR SCREEN LINED UP OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING TO THANK THEM FOR THEIR SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY. THE STORE IS MAXWELL’S ONLY GROCERY STORE AND HAS BEEN IN THE FAMILY FOR GENERATIONS. THE BUILDING DATES BACK TO 1881. WE ALWAYS LOVE THE STORE AND APPRECIATED EVERYTHING THEY DID, BUT TO SEE THAT IT MEANT SO MUCH TO EVERYBODY ELSE AS MUCH AS IT DID TO US, WAS REALLY SPECIAL. WE JUST WANT THEM TO KNOW HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE AND LOVE THEM. THE LOGSDON BROTHERS DECIDED TO CLOSE THE STORE AS HEALTH ISSUES STARTED TO TAKE THEIR TOLL. THE CLOSEST GROCERY STORES TO MAXWELL ARE TWO FAIRWAYS, ONE IN NEVADA AND THE OTHER IN HUXLEY. BO

Logsdon's Grocery closed on Saturday after nearly 65 years of business.

After nearly 65 years of business, Logsdon's Grocery in Maxwell closed its doors for the final time on Saturday. However, they did so just to walk outside to the applause of hundreds of people gathered together to thank them for a job well done. Logsdon's Grocery is the town's only grocery store. It's found in Maxwell right along Highway 210 and has been run by brothers, Jay and Tom Logsdon. KCCI spoke with the brothers in mid-June, as they shared their sadness for having to close. They say health issues are taking their toll. On Saturday, hundreds of people showed up outside of the grocery store, loudly applauding as employees left the building. "We have the town of Maxwell coming to celebrate and say thank you to the Logsdon boys, who've been in business for decades here in town," said Robert Bacon, one of many standing outside of the store on Saturday. "It's one of the few grocery stores in the state you can go in and say, 'Jay, I'm a little short. Can you spot me a dollar or two?' He'd put it on the tab." The Logsdon family says a woman in town wanted to put this send-off event together for the family and the store's employees. "It was completely overwhelming to walk out and just see the crowds of people," said Jill Halter, one of Jay Logsdon's daughters. "I mean, just to see how big of an impact he's had on the community and all of these people's lives over the years. It was just an amazing experience to be part of."
