Research skills are a key skill to develop throughout your studies. You will be expected to use a variety of search tools during the research process. This course will introduce key research tools including bibliographic databases, web-based information, books and journal articles. This course will highlight the importance of building up an effective search strategy to find the best quality information and how you manage the results using reference management software.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this workshop you will be able to:

  • Recognise the importance of using research tools
  • Identify how to find key research tools in your subject area
  • Employ search strategies in various search tools
  • Evaluation of the quality of research resources you find
  • Develop an understanding of the key reference management tools available
