For the 15th anniversary of the "Battlestar Galactica" finale, I spoke with several of the show's writers and actors for an inside look at how it reached that conclusion. One of them was David Eick, the series' co-creator (with Ronald D. Moore). I asked the man who resurrected "Galactica" out of its campy 1970s roots why attempts to keep the franchise going faltered.
You see, "Battlestar" hadn't even been finished a year when a prequel spin-off debuted: "Caprica," an ensemble drama set more than 50 years before the series on the eponymous planet (one of the 12 colonies razed by the robotic Cylons at the outset of "Battlestar Galactica"). The series debuted in January 2010 and wrapped that November after a single, 19-episode first season -- its planned multi-year run aborted by low ratings.
Next, Eick and co. pivoted with "Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome," a second prequel (but after "Caprica") set during the first human/Cylon war.

British TV presenter Gregg Wallace usually enjoys calm Saturdays, we are told, but he has had a less serene week, trading brickbats with the UK press, in a debacle that has highlighted the perils of the apparent “tell-all” celebrity magazine feature.
This began seven days ago, when Wallace – a familiar face on TV screens as the longtime presenter of Masterchef and a catalog of other food-related shows – was featured in The Telegraph’s regular ‘My Saturday’ slot, detailing his usual routine on the first day of each weekend.
The backlash was swift, with journalists picking up on Wallace’s various revelations, after he gave details of his home life including the time he spent with his son (commenters said not enough), time on his computer game and the fact that he hadn’t wanted his youngest child, so he cut a deal whereby the pair went on holiday alone once a year.

The Cranberries were an Irish rock band formed in Limerick in 1989. They were known for their unique sound, which combined elements of alternative rock, pop, and Irish folk music. Here are some interesting facts about the band:
The Cranberries consisted of lead singer Dolores O’Riordan, guitarist Noel Hogan, bassist Mike Hogan, and drummer Fergal Lawler [1]. Their debut album, “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?,” was released in 1993 and featured the hit singles “Linger” and “Dreams” [1]. The band went on to release several more successful albums, including “No Need to Argue” and “To the Faithful Departed” [1]. The Cranberries were known for their socially conscious lyrics, and many of their songs addressed political and social issues such as the conflict in Northern Ireland and the Troubles [2]. In 2003, the band went on hiatus, but they reunited in 2009 and released their final album, “In the End,” in 2019, following the death...

This article contains spoilers through Teen Wolf season 6.
Watching MTV’s Teen Wolf for the first time years after it aired is an interesting experience. There are many things about the series that feel like a product of the 2010s, from the Bieber-esque hairstyle we first see Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) wear in the first season to the borderline cheesy romances. But what stands out the most watching this series now is how much the final season reflects the state of the U.S. and its politics during that time.
2017 marked the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency, and a turning point in U.S. politics that we’re still dealing with to this day. Electing a reality TV star not only gave an incompetent buffoon more power than he should have ever had, but it reinforced to certain extreme sects of the country that their views of the world were right.

The re-imagined "Battlestar Galactica" series, developed by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, hit our screens in 2003. The ongoing story would eventually end in 2009, having picked up several accolades -- including winning Emmys and Hugo awards -- along the way. Telling the tale of the titular capital ship and its ragtag fleet of civilians and military personnel, "Battlestar Galactica" follows the last remnants of humanity fleeing their robotic race (and humans' former slaves), the Cylons. In an era obsessed with grim and gritty reboots, "Battlestar Galactica" stood out as a television series that honored the original series and charted brave new territory, too.
Moore and Eick's series was as much a study of theology as it was a military drama with detailed and complex character stories. Throughout the Battlestar's long journey to find a new home, the show would create some of the most memorable sci-fi television episodes to date.

Maybe Netflix saved the best of its festival debuts for last. After receiving mixed responses to “Bardo” and “White Noise” at Venice, the streamer was blessed with some of the most effusive reactions of the year so far for “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.” The Rian Johnson mystery-comedy debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday night.
“Yes, ‘Glass Onion’ is as good as ‘Knives Out,’ if not better – another very funny, supremely well-written murder-mystery w/ twists & turns galore. I could watch Daniel Craig play Benoit Blanc forever. Also Big shout out to Janelle Monáe, the film’s all-star without a doubt,” Fandango’s Erik Davis wrote.
“‘Glass Onion’ is even better than the original ‘Knives Out.’ Can [Rian Johnson] slow down and give everyone else a chance??!” wrote Vanity Fair’s Michael Hogan.

Leading arthouse sales agency The Match Factory has acquired “The Box” (La Caja), the second feature of Mexican filmmaker Lorenzo Vigas, winner of Venice Film Festival’s Golden Lion with “From Afar.” “The Box” is likely to find a berth at Cannes or Venice.
The film follows Hatzin, a teenager from Mexico City, who travels to collect the remains of his father, which have been found in a communal grave in the northern part of Mexico. But a casual encounter with a man who shares a physical resemblance with his father fills Hatzin with both doubts and hope about his parent’s true whereabouts.
Vigas says that in the film he reflects on “the theme of identity from various points of view.” He adds: “Latin American history is very young. Until a relatively short time ago, we were still European colonies; as a continent, we are trying to understand who...

You may not be aware, but Michael Hogan suffered a fall recently, and his friends, family, and fans have answered a call for help.
Michael Hogan's career has spanned over forty years, and in that time, he has portrayed such larger-than-life figures as Saul Tigh on Battlestar Galactica (2004), Otto Gerhhardt on Fargo, Dr. Eckland on 12 Monkeys, and Gerard Argent on Teen Wolf.
He often attends conventions and, from personal experience, I know that he is a kind and warm individual who was willing to chat with this fan girl when she accosted him in a Vancouver hotel lounge.
So the tragedy of the injury he sustained in February of this year and the subsequent health setbacks exacerbated by Covid-19 restrictions is just heart-breaking.
This may be slipped right by your attention despite the many times you have enjoyed inviting Hogan into your homes through your TV.
But the sad...

“Battlestar Galactica” actor Michael Hogan has been hospitalized since earlier this year after suffering a “massive brain bleed” from a fall, according to a GoFundMe page set up over the weekend.
“Michael was in Vancouver participating in a Battlestar Galactica convention, and at dinner following his day’s work, he fell and hit his head. Hard,” Hogan’s wife Susan said in a statement shared on the page. “He went to bed that night not realizing that the impact had caused a massive brain bleed. He was unable to be woken the next morning and was taken to Vancouver General Hospital and emergency surgery performed. It took 57 staples to close the part of his scull [sic] they had to remove in order to reach the damage.”
The actor suffered “complete paralysis on his left side, memory loss, cogntivie [sic] impairment and an inability to swallow” in the days following the February accident.

People are raising money online for “Battlestar Galactica” actor Michael Hogan’s medical care after he had a serious fall in February.
According to a GoFundMe page created on behalf of his wife Susan Hogan, the actor has been suffering from paralysis on his left side, memory loss and other health problems from a fall on Feb. 17 that caused bleeding in his brain. He is currently being cared for at the Berkley Care Center in North Vancouver, Canada.
“Though it is hard to imagine, I think it’s fair to say it is unlikely Michael will be able to work again. And for these past seven months, neither has Susan, given the circumstances,” the fundraiser description, written by Horgan’s neighbor Shari Ulrich, reads. “She is facing an uncertain future to navigate other than knowing that the financial demands will continue to be great.”

There’s something about fantasy and horror that simultaneously repels and attracts the young; it could be peering into the unknown, perhaps it’s something that is “taboo,” or maybe they’re simply drawn to the weird and unexplainable. This last point would certainly explain the devoted cult that surrounds The Peanut Butter Solution (1985), a Canadian film that plays the odd as matter of fact instead of something to cower from. A good lesson to be sure, and one that Severin Films knows all too well. And with this, their first release under the Severin Kids banner, they’re tapping into a particular vein that adults will enjoy as well. Strange is strange, no matter your age.

Hey, "The Resident" fans. Unfortunately, we have some very bad news for you guys tonight. It turns out that the 5th episode of your favorite show has indeed been delayed this week. In fact, the whole, usual primetime line up for Fox has been delayed. We'll get into the reason why in a second. But first, we want to tell you that the new episode 5 is now scheduled to air next Tuesday night, October 29, 2019 at approximately 7 pm central standard time on Fox of course. So, be sure to mark down that very important date on your TV show calendars. Now, the big reason why Fox isn't airing the new 5th episode of "The Resident" tonight is because they have devoted their entire primetime schedule to covering Game 1 of the Major League Baseball World Series. Fox's official description for their Live coverage of Game 1 of the Major League Baseball World Series reads like this,...

The story of a dramatic rescue of 12 boys and their coach, trapped for over two weeks in a cave in northern Thailand last year, will be told by Netflix following a deal between several producers, here on Tuesday.
Thai company 13 Tham Luang Company Ltd, which has the rights to use the stories of the rescued boys, and production company Sk Global Entertainment sealed their collaboration with the American streaming giant to bring the story to the screen.
Government spokesperson Werachon Sukondhapatipak said the boys picked Netflix out of the options available to tell their story, Efe news reported. Netflix has acquired worldwide rights to the Indian anthology series “Delhi Crime.” The police procedural will have its world premiere in the Sundance Film Festival’s Indie Episodic Section on Tuesday, with its Netflix launch coming on March 22.
Written and directed by Richie Mehta, the seven-part first season is inspired by a 2012 Delhi gang rape case and was shot on location in New Delhi. “Delhi Crime” looks at the complexities of the case, including the scrutiny of the victim and the investigative team’s determination to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The cast is led by Shefali Shah and also stars Adil Hussain, Denzil Smith (“The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”), Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang and Yashaswini Dayama. It’s produced by Golden Karavan and Ivanhoe Pictures.

Exclusive: In a competitive situation, Netflix has landed Indian anthology drama series Delhi Crime, with what I hear is a two-season order. The series (original title Delhi Crime Story) hails from award winning Canadian-Indian auteur Richie Mehta; Golden Karavan, the Mumbai-based venture of leading TV producer Aaron Kaplan, media investor Jeff Sagansky, Florence Sloan, Apoorva Bakshi, Pooja Kohli and Sanjay Bachani; as well as John Penotti, Michael Hogan and Kilian Kerwin’s Ivanhoe Pictures (Crazy Rich Asians).
The deal was made on the eve of Delhi Crime‘s Jan. 29 world premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in the Indie Episodic category. I hear it covers the already produced seven-episode first season in addition to a second installment. Season 1 of the police-procedural thriller will debut on Netflix worldwide March 22.
Delhi Crime marks Kaplan’s 10th on-air series and second on Netflix, joining Santa Clarita Diet, which he executive produces through Kapital Entertainment.

“Delhi Crime Story,” a seven-part series by Indo-Canadian writer-director Richie Mehta (“Siddharth”) will have its world premiere at Sundance in early 2019.
Mehta was at the 2nd International Film Festival and Awards, Macao (Iffam), in 2017 with “The Price of Tea,” one of the three auteur projects at the Iffam project market that year. Set in Beijing, the film will follow a Canadian man who falls for a Chinese woman over the course of a magical day only to discover that she is not what she seems.
Several parts of “Delhi Crime Story” will play as part of Sundance’s Indie Episodic strand. Based on the 2012 rape case in Delhi that shocked the world, the series centers on the heroic actions of the Delhi police. With the eyes of the world upon it, the investigation is led by one passionate female officer who was driven to find the perpetrators by the crime’s extreme brutality.

God bless Spencer Reid’s big, beautiful brain and it’s ability to say something without uttering a word.
CBS’ Criminal Minds opens Season 14 this Wednesday at 10/9c with the procedural’s 300th episode, which picks up exactly where things left off: The Messiah’s followers, Vicap Special Agent Mary Meadows (Galavant‘s Karen David) included, have compelled Reid to spring their serial-killing cult’s leader, Benjamin Merva (Michael Hogan), from FBI custody.
In doing so, though, Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) had the presence of mind to silently get a message to the Bau team, as seen in the exclusive sneak peek above.

The new oral history of Battlestar Galactica, So Say We All (Tor Books), from bestselling authors Mark A. Altman and Edward Gross, tells the story of how a 1978 space opera greenlit in the aftermath of Star Wars, and featuring a robot dog and lumbering, mechanical robot villains called the Cylons, evolved into one of the greatest and most critically acclaimed series ever. Debuting on the Syfy Channel in 2004, the same season as Lost, Battlestar Galactica (truly born out of the ashes of 9/11) was not immediately embraced by fans of the original show when it was first announced as a miniseries — not the least of which was because the 1978 popular character of Starbuck, played by a swashbuckling Dirk Benedict, was reconceived as a kick-ass woman played by Katee Sackhoff. (Starbuck, then and now; Photo Credit: Getty Images) Those robot villains? They were remade as humanoid villains, and even the Galactica's first officer,...

In today’s film news roundup, California legislators have started working on an extension of the production tax credit, Golden Lion winner Lorenzo Vigas is working on his next film and Tribeca zombie thriller “The Night Eats the World” gets sold.
Tax Credits
California legislators have begun the process of extending the California Film and Television production tax credit for five years beyond its 2020 expiration with bills introduced in the State Senate and Assembly.
The Senate Governance and Finance Committee approved Senate Bill 832 this week. The bill would maintain the annual allocation of credits at its current level of $330 million. The program, which allocates as much as 25% of the budget to credits, was expanded in 2015 to compete effectively with incentives in New York and Georgia.
The program is overseen by the California Film Commission, which selects the TV and movie projects to qualify partly based on the number of jobs created.

Well, at least the Criminal Minds braintrust made a strong pitch for a Season 14, even though it was an uninspired idea, undoubtedly from CBS, to force together two disconnected episodes into a finale "event."
Still, the range of this series was showcased on Criminal Minds Season 13 Episode 21 and Criminal Minds Season 13 Episode 22.
First, let's drill down on the case featuring the Taos Hum, which I can't get out of my head.
Only on Criminal Minds can murder by power tool be treated as a matter of course. Or, to look at it another way, the Bau has dealt with even more gruesome methods for killing.
I agreed with the local chief, whose opinion about the murders seemed to be "Wtf?" This was definitely outside her area of expertise.
This episode reinforced that the hardest part of being a Bau profile is trying to find a logic for the unsub's killing spree.

The following contains spoilers from Criminal Minds’ Season 13 finale.
‘Member how in Criminal Minds‘ previous season finale, the lives of everyone but Reid and Garcia were left in jeopardy?
Well, the exact flip-side of that is what fans will be left to fret over this summer, given how Season 13 came to a close.
Having been led to a storage unit where FBI Agent Owen Quinn (Difficult People‘s James Urbaniak) had seemingly been left for dead, Reid and the rest of the Bau got to investigating the long-missing colleague’s claim of hunting and then running afoul of a team of serial killers.

Almost 7,000 people worldwide predicted these Academy Awards winners in 24 categories. The ceremony was held in Hollywood and was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. Virk got 21 of 24 categories correct, but missed out on “The Shape of Water” for Best Picture (choosing “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” instead). He did get that movie’s director champ Guillermo del Toro and the four acting winners of Frances McDormand, Timothee Chalamet, Allison Janney and Sam Rockwell.

“Dunkirk” is ahead to win Oscars for Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing, and it’s no wonder since action-packed war movies often do well in audio categories. If the film indeed wins the award for its sound editing, it would additionally make history as Richard King would set a new record for the most wins in that category.
There is currently a six-way tie for the most Sound Editing wins. Ben Burtt, Charles L. Campbell, Per Hallberg, Richard Hymns, Gary Rydstrom and King have three victories apiece, including years when the prize was handed out as a special achievement award and not a competitive Oscar. King previously won his Oscars for “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World” (2003), “The Dark Knight” (2008) and “Inception” (2010), and he earned additional nominations for “War of the Worlds” (2005) and “Interstellar” (2014). For his work on “Dunkirk” he’s nominated alongside first-time Oscar-contender Alex Gibson,...

Gary Oldman was considered a likely Oscar front-runner for “Darkest Hour” almost as soon as the first production still was released of him disappearing into the role of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. And the prosthetic makeup that helped him disappear became an Oscar front-runner just as quickly. With Oscar night approaching that hasn’t changed, especially with the film’s victories at the Critics’ Choice Awards, BAFTAs and Make Up and Hair Stylists Guild Awards. Kazuhiro Tsuji, David Malinowski and Lucy Sibbick are the makeup and hair artists nominated for their work on the docudrama, and they’re the overwhelming favorites to win Best Makeup and Hairstyling with 1/10 odds.
