A Second Shirt Story Collection by SB (WD) (ASA) (SAVVB - 2)

This us an excellent collection for comic book junkies that are looking for something new to read. As in the first collection the stories are well written and could have potential to become superhero comic books. We need a new Marvel Comics entrepreneur. This us an excellent collection of potential Superhero comic books......DEHS

I’ve not really scratched the surface of this collection but if it’s anytging like the one book I’ve read it’s going to be a five star read. That book is Lucia Ashta’s “The Unkillable Killer”. It asks the basic question of what do you do if you get tired of living forever but you’re immortal and unkillable? Neat question - and a truly neat, well written story.

My five stars rating is based on this one contribution. Hopefully the rest will hold up, and I’ve got a good feeling here....

"Tight were uncomfortable, and capes may look cool but ..."
A sheer delight.
Twelve excellent, original ànd unexpected stories, each short but very satisfying. As is said in the forward to the companion volume, It's a bird! It's a plane, "We are all superheroes and we can all make a difference," But to be a supervillain, now that takes someone pretty special.
And here they are, the special supervillains, though I'm sure that some of them would disagree. Often filled with humour as well as sparkling writing, every one deserves a mention, each so good in it's own unique way. However, for this reader, three in particular have made the deepest impressions: David Burns's hired adventurer, The Collector, the sad whimsy of Lucia Ashta's, The Unkillable Killer and the final story in the book, the hilarious mini thriller, Black Razor, by Philip Hall.

A real gem of a book to read even when time is short, every tale enjoyable in this anthology of humour, pathos and even some good old superbattles. Buy and enjoy: you will not be disappointed!.

Recieved this book as an ARC

While I didn't quite enjoy it as much as the sister anthology "It's a Bird! It's a Plane! (mainly due to my own preferences), but thought some of the stories were enjoyable and at the very least, the stories got me thinking. Worth reading.

My two favorite stories from this anthology were Troubleshooting and The Arch-Nemesis.

This is wonderful selection of short stories by some of the best authors around, when it comes to supers. These authors can give any of the mainstream comic writers a go, and if you like the villains don't forget the heroes in It's a Bird! It's a Plane!: A Superhero Anthology it is just as good if not better, depending on whether you are a dark side person or a light side person. Some of my favorites from supervillains are:

Dreamer from Hank Garner: What can be so bad about giving a 18 year old a journal, I mean really what do they write about anyways? Their dreams, the real ones.

The Collector from David Bruns: Mr. Rogers and Mr. Smith, hum interesting names, but Mr. Rogers has a very special talent that Mr. Smith needs, at least for a while.

Now Comes the Bringer of Blight from Ed Gosney: When Zach's superpowers make him go bad his best friend, Cody, is there for him. Cody helps to set him straight the only way a normal kid can compared to a super.

Redemption from Ian Garner: All the supers are gone but two. Both bad, but one feeling regrets for all the things he did over the years, and wanting to make amends. The other younger and hoping to become god of earth. The fight is on.

The Arch-Nemesis from Christopher J Valin: Battlegear, the bad guy, and Eaglestar, the good guy, are duking it out the only way they know how, the dirty way, low blows and such. But what happens when one doesn't want to play any more and takes his ball and goes home.

As you can see this is a different side to some of the villains, one you might never get to see, a more interesting side one you don't want to miss.

You also don't want to miss out on a chance to maybe find a new wonderful author out of these twelve top notch writers

This is the second in a series of collected short stories by various authors. The collections alternate between short stories about superheroes and supervillains. The odd number books are superheroes and the even number books are the vile villains. Mnay of the authors say they were influenced by comic books while growing up. But these aren't like the mainstream comics that you might be familiar reading. These are more "realistic" takes on what it would mean to have superpowered beings in the world.

I feel the authors had a harder time with writing these short stories of vile villains. They had to write a story about a character that is considered a bad guy by the general populace but still be either likable (or at least interesting) enough to keep the reader's interest. But they can't make the villain too likable or they won't come across as really bad. It is a tall order to show the character is bad but then why you should care (or their story at least) for them in the space of just a few pages.

But when this challenge is met, you have a great story in the making. Villains are the mirror that shows the hero's real worth. The Joker vs Batman, Lex Luthor vs Superman, Green Goblin vs Spider-Man, The Sheriff of Notingham vs Robin Hood, all work so well because we know both characters so well and how theyhelp to define the other.

Kindle Unlimted {got the superhero/book 1 anthology as arc}.

In the other one, can't remember the rating for sure, but pretty sure it was a 4; the ones I liked I really liked, and there was some that were at least okay, but there were a couple at least that could not stand.

This one, it's not really doing so well either. Beauliue's {and cowriter I think} story was okay. The one about the berzerkers didn't make any sense, remember being totally unimpressed with the first story of the set. The rest so far have been eh basically.Stone's story was interesting. Understand that for anthology things are shorter/short stories and don't necessarily mesh or mix well with the other stories, but really could just not get interested in over half of these.

The Unkillible Killer by Lucia Ashta: Long ago in an electric storm ten monks we're hit by lightning. Instead off killing them it has made them "superheroes".
Nicodemus known as "Super Dough Man" is tired, feed up with a never ending immortality.
The only thing he can think of to end his suffering is to die.
How does an immortal die? This is a story brought to you by Lucia Ashta.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Some stories I really liked, some not so much.

With the exception of the last story, none of villains were really that villainous. Though I found most of the stories interesting, with great ideas behind them.

Not what you think!!!

Another very different and interesting group of stories with plots, twists and turns that are completely outside the box of villains that anyone would expect!!! And another group of stories that you cant put down!!!

Good collection

Really good set of stories. Only had problems with just 1 of the stories, but it was still pretty good. Looking forward to reading the superhero companion anthology
