From national bestselling authors William Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone comes the epic tale of Hangtree County, Texas, where a gunslinger and a lawman work to bring peace to the most dangerous town in the west . . .
TO SAVE A KILLER, A GUNMAN BLASTS HIS WAY ACROSS TEXAS
On the trail to Hangtree, a gang of bandits give chase to a teenage gunslinger. Young Bill is bracing for the end when the crack of a Winchester scatters the bandits. Sam Heller, Hangtree lawman, has saved another life. And Bill will beg Heller to save one more . . .
Bill rode in from East Texas, where Cullen Baker, the original quick-draw artist, fights a life-and-death battle with a corrupt robber baron for control of the Torrent River. Bill came seeking help from Cullen’s old pal, Johnny Cross, who agrees to ride east to lend a bullet or two. It’s a long way to go for justice, requiring a trek across a desert held by brutal outlaws just waiting to kill under a merciless sun. But with Sam Heller at Cross’s side, the odds are better. And when the ammo’s loaded and the triggers are cocked for an all-out gun battle, the Torrent will flow red—with blood . . .

I was going to grow up and be a cowboy. I was going to ride and rope and shoot the bad guys. Anyone who asked if I was a cowgirl received a resounding NO! From my black boots to my black gun holster to my black hat, I was all cowboy. Then I turned six and learned to read. So, okay, I didn’t become a cowboy but I did become a huge fan of Western literature.
This book brought back all those Western dreams of a little girl who lived in a suburb and whose prize possession was her silver cap gun. Bad guys and not so bad guys fill this book with all the Western wildness you could ask for. Gunslingers, pirates, thieves, bandits, all carrying guns and knowing how to use them. This story takes place during the wild period right after the Civil War when Texas was still a place a man could get lost in if he needed to, he might even make his fortune while attempting to bury his past but can a man really escape his past?
This is a very well written book of the raw, dangerous life young men lead during that time period. The characters have depth which will pull you in and make you root for them right to the end. They are not nice innocent young men but hardened gunslingers who still understand what justice means but believe revenge is a part of justice. This was a really good book and I highly recommend it.
I didn't enjoy this novel at all. I realize that I have no connection to the characters, but the story itself just didn't grab my attention. I've read a few novels of this series, but just hooking me.
This was about a bad area or Texas where it was hard for the Law in and clean it up. There were always some good men around . Had there now been Texas would not have lasted and
