This is the second book in the Sundown Riders trilogy. And I'm going to just say it again..if you haven't read a Western novel - you need to. This was just as awesome as the first one. Look forward to the next one.

Ive been pretty unlucky this year with the books ive chosen to read. I got 100 pages from the end of this book and genuinely couldnt be bothered to continue any longer. I gave it chance after chance but it was just dull sadly. I hate giving up on a book but this was just meh. Very similar to Louis Lamour and hes very hit or miss for me. Pretty bummed out about it. Wes and El Lobo could have been great, but they were predictable and everything was irriterated two or three times. Dude. I get it. Theyre going West.

A low key book without much of Compton's edge of seat action. It is a part one of a continued story. I felt it had a lot of things that couldn't happen such as horses going a lot faster than the train in one sequence. Still a good read.

I enjoy the GA acting and score, but this journey just isn't grabbing my attention. It is a bit different of a story, but I haven't connected with the characters.

Part of a series, but is easy to pick up the gist of it.
Wes Stone and his friend El Lobo have broken up a gang down Mexico way (in book 1?) and get asked by a friend of Wes' dad to help him out with another gang operating on his side of the border.
Plenty of scrapes along the way, although the bad guys seem to pick hopelessly inept mooks to try and stop the two friends.
A bit of an unfulfilling ending as it leads into book 3 leaving a lot still to do.

The main characters were well written and it had plenty of action.

I am not normally a western fan but a few writers seem to jump out and grab me. Ralph Compton writes a quick paced and very historically accurate book. Nice read with great characters. Very recommended
