Stevie Boyd has returned to his small hometown of Martins Ferry, Ohio, to attend his father's funeral. But the ghosts of the past he now faces are far worse than the reality of his father's death. Because what happened to Stevie and his childhood friends years ago is once again threatening his very sanity.
'ORANGE CRIK' is a haunting little short story that focuses on the kinds of things boys did in Martins Ferry, Ohio, in the early 1970s. Combining the innocence of youth with supernatural horror, the demons of 'ORANGE CRIK' continue beneath the grate in the alley.
Ed Gosney grew up in the small river town of Martins Ferry, Ohio, near Wheeling, West Virginia. He claims it was a magical place that helped mold his imagination, as he spent countless hours roaming the hills, playing in a cave, and hanging out at the Ohio River with his childhood friends.
Ed is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in English Education, and served in the Army, becoming a Journalist and the editor of the Army post newspaper. After being honorably discharged, he entered the corporate world to write business proposals, working for several different banks and at times managing proposal teams.
Currently living in Copley, Ohio, Ed has been married to Melissa since 1987 and has three children, Renee, Ed, and Brynn.
I won this one, now it's pretty interesting maybe if I read the other book I can find a little more of context but it was pretty disturbing on his own.
The idea that you can find something so troubling and disturbing somewhere in the house you live in and have to take therapy afterwards and that you can see something wrong a lot of time later when you come back to your hometown, it's pretty horrific.
Will seek more books by this author to see more disturbing and creepy stories.
Orange Crik took me back to the days of Are You Afraid of the Dark. I could really put myself in Stevie's shoes because I was that kid at one point in my life. Bravo, Ed. I look forward to reading more of your work!
A short tale reminiscent of Stephen King's "It". Stevie Boyd returns to the small town where he grew up to attend his father's funeral. While he is there, he also remembers what happened to his friends when they were kids. Typical boys, challenging their friends to do things they aren't comfortable doing. Name calling, dares, you name it.
A short listen, still very haunting and one that will probably stick with me for a while. If you enjoy your tales to be creepy and open-ended, you will enjoy this one.
Great writing and great narration.....thanks for sharing this one with me!
My review is based on the audiobook. Orange Crik brought me right back to my childhood - we all had those creepy neighborhood haunts. For me it is the home where the Jersey Devil was born. Anyway this was a great short story that leave you wanting more from this Author. The narration was on point as well. Looking forward to more by this Author
If you're a fan of the nostalgia turned horror vibe that lurks behind the popular Stranger Things franchise, you will love this short story about a young man's return to the site of a childhood tragedy. Gosney has perfectly captured the bravado and cruelty of young boys in his telling of the tale through his hero's grownup eyes. Possibly my favourite paranormal story of the year.
Quick read during lunch. This was free to download from Amazon and was only 12 pages long. Interesting enough to see what else this author has written.
