Cooper, Creator of King Kong, which was a Los Angeles Times bestseller.
This is a pretty interesting book for a very niche audience. You pretty much have to be interested in at least two of the three parts of the project: The Nintendo 64 video game, the novel, or the comic book series. The concept behind the movie without a movie of Shadows of the Empire is really cool. I remember playing the game repeatedly growing up, and I still think it holds up. I recently read the novel, which was decent. The comic book series isn't great.
Reading about all of the work behind the scenes to keep every aspect of the story consistent was interesting. There was one major difference that surprised me.
Behind the scenes look at the creation of the "movie without a movie" that in some ways is more interesting than any of the projects it covers. Still, probably only really worth a look for fans of the Shadows book, comic, or game.
I LOVE the whole phenomenon of this story from the book and comic books to the toys and video game. Since i know Disney is going to muck up the continuum of the universe Lucas created, I am trying to revisit as many of these stories as I can, so I might maintain the proper version of the saga. The book gave me some interesting insight into behind the scenes of how different mediums were used to fully tell this story. However, i should have known that there wouldn't be any more secrets or backstory to explore about the actual story or characters. Im glad I read this, as I am a huge Shadows fan, but I wished there were more to it.
Reading this twenty years after the Shadows of the Empire event is an interesting trip down memory lane. Of course, the biggest time gap between then and now is the discussion about the creation of the N64 game. But it is also interesting to hear about how Lucasfilm was managing the canon of the SW universe in light of the fact that Disney has abandoned the previous canon so they can create their own.
