I got the distinct impression that Lovecraft surely must have read Borderland and then proceeded to build upon the swine-like creatures in the pit transforming them into his now infamous tentacled villains and placed another one of their bombast, carved directly from the natural terrain in his story At the Mountains of Madness. Anyone else concur?
