Speaking to Express.co.uk at the TRIC Awards, Strictly Come Dancing icon Shirley Ballas said working on Doctor Who was a "dream come true".

Opening up about starring on the BBC sci-fi classic and spending the day with fellow Strictly star Johannes Radebe to film a special episode, she said: "It was a dream come true. He is the most wonderful gentleman.

"He's so kind and caring! We had a lot - we went back in time and we were inside that phone box. He was a darling and it was great."

The head judge played herself in the episode called The Devil's Chord which was set in the 1960s amid the rise of Beatlemania.

Within her scene, Shirley and Johannes encountered Doctor Who - played by Ncuti Gatwa - before breaking out into dance.

However, the Time Lord soon warns his companion Ruby Sunday (played by Millie Gibson) that adventures always end with a twist.

Shirley and Johannes' performance received huge praise from viewers who were thrilled to see the dancers on their screens together.

She told The Sun: “The filming was one of the best days of my life. We’re doing a guest appearance with Jojo where I actually get to perform with Jojo and so many other dancers on the show, so I’m very, very excited for people to watch.”

During her time on the red carpet for the TRIC Awards 2024, which was held in Mayfair, London, she was asked about key television moments of the year.

When asked what her TV highlight of the year was, she responded by saying Mr Bates vs The Post Office on ITV.

The series, which has scooped an array of awards, including TRIC Awards this year, followed the extraordinary miscarriage of justice with The Post Office.
