Celebrity chef James Martin hit back at critics who accused him of faking his guitar skills during a live tour after dedicating "hours" to mastering the instrument. In 2019, the culinary star decided to spice up his live shows by learning to play an instrument and initially set his sights on the piano.

However, with only eight weeks to go until the tour, his music teacher suggested he switch to the guitar for a quicker learning curve. The 52-year-old managed to learn the guitar in the nick of time and went on to wow the crowd with an Oasis classic on the opening night in Liverpool.

Despite his efforts, some sceptics on social media claimed he was faking playing the guitar, allegations he robustly denied during a chat on Simon Rimmer's Grilling podcast back in 2021, reports the Mirror.

He shared at the time: "I got accused the other day... this is why with social media I kind of switch off, I think it's hilarious. There was this whole raft going on that, 'James is miming'. Miming?! it p****d me off. I spent hours in here [his studio]."

"My fingers are knackered... hours! And then they accuse me of miming them."

His dedication paid off when his tutor encouraged him to form a band, which led to gigs at events like Pub in the Park and Chris Evans' CarFest.

Reflecting on his musical journey, the chef remarked: "If you're going to do anything in life, you've got to enjoy it. You've got to try your best and push the boundaries."

Simon went on to say that having seen James play, he was surprised by his talent and admitted he initially thought he'd be "s**t".

The chef, with a chuckle, said that this opinion was probably shared with thousands before they heard him perform.

Leaping forward in time, the Saturday Morning star has announced an exciting new tour set to launch next year.

He shared in a statement earlier this year: "I'm delighted to announce I will be heading back on the road with my all new LIVE tour for 2025.

"Following four sell-out tours James Martin Live will visit 20 amazing venues across England, Scotland and Wales.

"For 2025 expect new recipes and entertaining tales as I teach you the tips, tricks and skills needed to whip up a sensational dining experience.

"Join me for a high-energy night of no-holds barred entertainment, filled with delicious buttery recipes, comedy, cars, nostalgic stories and music. I can't wait to see you there!".

Saturday Morning with James Martin airs weekly at 9.30am on ITV and ITVX.
