EDiUR Examination

The next European Diploma in Urogenital Radiology (EDiUR) examination will take place during ESUR 2024 in Lisbon, Portugal, on Thursday, September 19, 09.00h-13.00h.

Applications will be accepted from January 10, 2024 until September 2, 2024.

Aims and Target Group

Target Group

Candidates have to be fully trained, licensed and practicing radiologists, with a two-year Level III training in urogenital radiology. Level III training is a formal, full-immersion training in the subspecialty with rotations in prostate imaging, gynecological/obstetrical radiology and/or in urological/nephrological radiology. An active participation in a research program is welcome.

Candidates must be ESR and ESUR members in the year(s) of the application and examination.

Terminology

Successful candidates will be awarded the “European Diploma in Urogenital Radiology”.

Fee Structure

The handling fee of the diploma is € 400. In case a candidate will not pass the EDiUR he/she will have the possibility to retake the examination one year later at a reduced fee.

Eligibility Criteria

Diplomas may only be awarded to fully-trained, licensed, and practicing radiologists. The candidate is required to provide compelling evidence of this. For the purposes of this requirement, proof of practice is considered compelling evidence.

The training of candidates has to be in line with previously established basic principles of radiology training as laid out in the level III ESR European Training Curriculum for Subspecialization in Radiology.

Key aspects of these principles are:

Full subspecialisation should only take place after the designated time for radiology residency, which should preferably last no less than five years. For candidates with less than five years of training only, proof of experience as a supervised staff radiologist is required.

Subspecialty interest training during the residency period does not of itself fulfil the training requirement for a diploma. At least two years of subspecialty training following radiology certification must be required by the certification program.

ESR and ESUR Membership

The candidate must be a full radiologist or corresponding radiologist member of the ESR as well as ESUR member in the year(s) of the application and examination. ESR Members-in-Training are not entitled to receive a subspecialty diploma.

Candidates have to provide the following documents with their application form:

• Certificate of completed training
• RIS documentation or logbook with a total record of the candidate’s experience in the respective subspecialty counter signed by the candidate’s programme director (at least two years of subspecialty clinical practice/ training certified by the programme director are required). Any kind of documentation provided by the working institution of the candidate. It is only aimed to document that the candidate performs urogenital radiology in his/her clinical practice.
• A letter of support from the programme director or department head, that states that the candidate fulfills the admission criteria.
• CV
• Proof of ESR and subspecialty society membership in the year(s) of the application and of the examination
• At least 50 CME credits in urogenital radiology recognized by ESUR

ESUR will recognize credits obtained with participation of ESUR events (congresses, workshops, courses) and/or the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) for the events regarding urogenital topics only. Credits obtained in any country regarding urogenital topics will be considered equivalent.

Relevant proofs of ESR and ESUR membership, practice and, for candidates with less than five years of training, experience as a supervised staff radiologist must be sent to the ESUR Office at least six weeks before an examination takes place. ESUR Office will oversee these documents and will forward to the ESR Office within four weeks before the examination.

Knowledge Base

The level of knowledge requested from candidates has to correspond to the curricular contents for full subspecialisation in urogenital radiology provided by the ESR European Training Curriculum for Subspecialization in Radiology (Level III). Candidates will be examined on main aspects of urogenital radiology, namely diagnostic radiology of the kidneys and retroperitoneum, imaging of the male and female reproductive systems, prostate imaging, and interventional radiology applied to the GU tract.

ESUR reckons that a certified level III uroradiologist must be able to serve as a fully trained, dedicated radiologist in interpreting mpMRI of the prostate. Therefore, prostate imaging skill will be specifically tested during the examination. Passing the level III exam shall require correct interpretation of the prostate cases.

Frequency

The examination takes place once a year at the ESUR Congress.

Examination Structure

All candidates will have the same examination conditions, equipment and the same length of time to complete the exam, with the exception of candidates with special needs.

The exam will be held in English. It consists of written and oral components, both contributing 50% of the total score for the exam. Both parts of the examination (oral and written) have to be passed. The examination tests knowledge, skills and competence in UG radiology in three components:

1. 20 multiple choice questions (MCQs) (40 minutes): written part (20 points)
2. 10 short cases (each with 2–5 questions) (45 minutes): written part (30 points)
3. Clinically Oriented Reasoning Evaluation (CORE): oral part; reporting of four cases, of which two dealing with prostate imaging (50 points, 15 for the prostate cases, 10 for the other cases).

The cases for the CORE part will be presented in DICOM format and displayed with a DICOM viewing software. They will be scored according with criteria similar to those already established for the CORE part of EDiR. A marking score from 0-10 points (0-15 for prostate cases) will be used. Three to five questions (the same for all candidates) will be asked for each case. Each question will be weighted depending on its relevance and difficulty. A score ? 25 must be reached to pass the written and the oral part, respectively. At least 18/30 points must be obtained for the two prostate cases.
