Vietnam has many parks and protected areas.

The government of Vietnam has placed special emphasis on eco-tourism in its strategy to develop tourism for that country. Three big animal species have recently been discovered here. The Saola (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis) was discovered in 1992 and is one of the rarest bovine species. It is only found in Vietnam or Laos. The Giant muntjac (Megamuntiacus vuquangensis) was discovered in 1994 and is a species of muntjac deer, the largest. It also is only found in Vietnam and Laos. The Truong Son muntjac or Annamite muntjac (Muntiacus truongsonensis) was discovered in 1997 and is one of the smallest of muntjac species. Thanh Phu Nature Reserve is a protected area that borders the Mekong Delta. It consists of sandy belts, tidal mudflats, saline tidal swamps and toxic acid-sulphate swamps. Another protected area is Nui Cam Nature Reserve which consists of secondary forest and plantation forest. They have recorded 178 plant species as well as Aquilaria crassna, which is a critically globally endangered tree species.
