Volcanoes and glaciers formed Iceland. therefore known as the land of fire and ice. Icelanders tend to be very environmentally conscious. Many volcanoes erupt periodically, and therefore most of Iceland is heated from the hot waters this creates. Rivers are also harnessed to provide hydroelectric power. Energy from these sources are considered environmentally good.

Vatnajökull National Park was established in 2008. The Park occupies twelve percent of Iceland and is the biggest park in Europe. Vatnajökull is also home to the first and only environmentally certified whale watching tour company, Elding Adventure at Sea. Below is an image from one of their tours.
