OnePlus 10T pre-orders go live in the U.S., and with a big 5G fix

Hot off the heels of its Asian and European launches, the OnePlus 10T is finally coming to North America, and with one major upgrade: 5G support with AT&T. For the first time on a OnePlus device, the OnePlus 10T will be fully compatible with AT&T 5G and 4G LTE networks, compared to previous handsets that only had LTE support on AT&T.

While the specs of OnePlus devices have always been impressive, especially so with the 10T, their recent reliance on LTE and other slower connections for AT&T customers has made them somewhat difficult to recommend. Now that users are able to make the most of 5G internet speeds, however, the 10T is more enticing than before.

With this update, OnePlus is finally offering both 4G and 5G connections for AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon on the 10T for North American users. The company also confirms that Canadian users can connect to 4G and 5G networks on Bell and Telus, but are still limited to 4G on Freedom and Rogers. Despite the lack of coverage with the latter two service providers, this is a major step forward for OnePlus as it’s now a more viable smartphone option for North Americans. 5G still isn’t a priority for everyone, but as carriers keep expanding their 5G offerings, having that support across the board is great to see.

As mentioned above, the OnePlus 10T has already launched in Asia and Europe, and its North American launch is just around the corner. Pre-orders for the smartphone are live now and will remain open until September 28. Units will then become available the next day, September 29.

If you’re looking to pre-order the device, make sure to put your order in within the first week of it being live, as you’ll be able to get your hands on the 16GB RAM/256GB internal storage version for just $649 — the same price as the 8GB RAM/128GB storage edition. After September 8, however, the better spec-ed variant will be bumped up in price to its usual $749.

It looks like 2023 could shape up to be the year that we reach "peak 5G." While T-Mobile still enjoys a very healthy lead over its rivals, we're no longer seeing significant speed increases from any of the big three U.S. carriers.

That's not surprising for T-Mobile and Verizon since they now cover more than two-thirds of the U.S. population. AT&T still has room to grow, yet it seems to be in a resting phase rather than an expansion one right now.

The 5G speed race is over and T-Mobile has won

Every few months, a new market analysis comes out comparing the top 5G performance and availability among U.S. carriers. Each time, we wonder if the latest report will finally topple T-Mobile, which has held a commanding lead over rivals AT&T and Verizon for years. Yet, with each new report, T-Mobile pulls farther ahead while AT&T and Verizon are left in the dust.

With that in mind, Opensignal's latest 5G Experience Report doesn't bring too many surprises, at least in broad strokes. T-Mobile continues to deliver 5G download speeds that are more than twice those of any other carrier and more than twice the 5G availability. This means you won't just get faster performance on T-Mobile's 5G network, but you're more likely to be able to find a 5G connection.

New OnePlus budget phone comes packing 2 super-rare features

OnePlus has introduced a new budget-priced phone for the U.S. market that includes some compelling hardware -- and a couple of rare conveniences. The OnePlus Nord N30 5G will set you back by $300 and is already up for preorders in the U.S., with a free pair of earbuds in tow.
Starting with the standout tricks, this phone comes with a microSD slot for storage expansion. It supports cards with up to 1TB storage capacity, which should be plenty if you are into capturing a lot of videos and high-resolution videos. Just keep in mind that microSD cards of 1TB capacity from reputed brands could cost as much as the phone itself.

Another notable perk is the presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack on the OnePlus Nord N30 5G. You don’t have to fork out extra cash on a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter or splurge on a Bluetooth audio wearable. However, there is more to this OnePlus phone than meets the eye, as some of its hardware perks defy its asking price by a huge margin.
You are greeted by a 6.7-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) display with a 120Hz refresh rate. For comparison, Apple will charge you $800 for the iPhone 14 Plus, but it still keeps you limited to a slow 60Hz LCD screen. And there is no ugly notch to be seen here, as the selfie camera is neatly housed inside a dot-shaped cutout at the top.
Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 695 chipset powers this phone, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The battery capacity is also fairly generous at 5,000 mAh. Plus, you get support for 50-watt fast charging. OnePlus ships the fast charger in the retail package, just in case you’re irked by the bad precedent set by the thousand-dollar phones from Apple and Samsung.
