Everything you need to know about the massive Apple App Store outage

Happy Wednesday evening, everyone! You’re unwinding for the day, getting ready for a relaxing night, and … you realize that the App Store and a bunch of other Apple services aren’t working. Don’t worry, you aren’t alone.

What Apple services are down? When did the problems start? Is the outage still ongoing? Here’s everything you need to know.

When did the App Store outage start?

According to DownDetector, reports of outages with the App Store flooded in a little after 6 p.m. ET. Reports appear to have spiked at over 6,000, indicating pretty widespread problems.

Attempting to open the App Store showed a “Cannot Connect” message, followed by “Something went wrong. Please try again.”

This came just a few hours after WhatsApp and Facebook were down earlier this afternoon.

Are other Apple services down?

In addition to the App Store, other Apple services were down, too.

Apple Podcasts, Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Sports, and Apple Fitness+ all experienced similar issues.

Is the Apple outage over?

Thankfully, all appears to be OK now. As of around 7:40 p.m. ET, almost all of Apple’s services are back to normal. The Apple System Status website shows one lingering outage for Apple’s Developer ID Notary Service, but that’s it.

Checking on our end, the App Store, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and all other Apple services are working as intended.

One of iOS 18’s coolest features just got even better

In June, we told you how Apple had updated the built-in flashlight’s interface in iOS 18. The latest iOS 18 beta 3 update includes further enhancements to the flashlight UI, making it more attractive and user-friendly.

TechCrunch explains that in the iOS 18 beta 3, the flashlight design now includes a curved line to indicate both the width of the beam and its brightness. The UI also now includes a dotted, curved line at the top to indicate the flashlight’s peak intensity mark. These latest flashlight changes are minor, and it's unclear whether they will be included in the final version of iOS 18. However, the changes demonstrate that Apple intends to revitalize a feature originally introduced in 2013.

It’s been years since the iPhone 7 was released in 2016, but the class action lawsuit against Apple over audio issues has finally worked its way through the courts, resulting in a $35 million settlement. The good news is that if you weren’t aware of this settlement and you are an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus owner, you may still be able to claim the settlement money.

The original deadline for the settlement was June 3, 2024, but the United States District Court for the Northern District of California revised it to July 3, 2024, for unknown reasons.
