Destiny 2 Halloween event: details and rewards

It’s that spooky time of the year, and what better way to celebrate than with some limited-time events in every Guardian’s favorite game? As is the tradition at this point, Destiny 2 is embracing the holiday season with a limited-time event with exclusive themed rewards around the Halloween holiday. The entire tower will be getting a spooky makeover, but the really exciting part is, of course, the special event and rewards you can earn.

Called the Festival of the Lost, this event is technically still part of the current Season of Plunder but is available for all players for free, regardless of what expansions they have or have not purchased. While Bungie hasn’t fully outlined all the specifics of how Festival of the Lost will work, there have been some details shared, plus a couple of leaks, to sink our teeth into. If you want to get your Guardian ready for some holiday fun, here’s all the information out there on the Destiny 2 Halloween event.

What is the Destiny 2 Halloween event?

As mentioned, this year, Destiny 2 is celebrating Halloween with what they’re calling the Festival of the Lost. The event kicks off on October 18, which is the weekly reset time, and is expected to last until November 8 if it follows the same three-week trend as previous holiday events.

As for what the event will actually add in terms of activities, that is still left in the dark. Last year, we were able to participate in special Haunted Lost Sectors, which placed us in a randomized haunted forest to fight Halloween-themed enemies. It is possible these Haunted Lost Sectors will be used again, perhaps just in an altered form, but for now, we will have to wait and see.

What we do know is that a new Event Card will be added. By completing objectives related to the Festival of the Lost activity, players will earn Triumphs that will lead to exclusive rewards. Speaking of rewards …

What are the rewards?

That Event Card will ultimately result in the Reveler title for your character. That’s just one thing to aim for, though, since Bungie already held a vote to help decide what new armor will be available during the Festival of the Lost. Between Team Mech and Team Monster, Team Mech, which featured robotic armor designs, won out. All we have is the concept art for what the armor sets will look like, but the real things shouldn’t be too far off from what they showed.

While the armor is the only confirmed reward so far, data miners have found what appear to be two other notable rewards that might be in store for us. The first is a set of eight new Halloween masks, as leaked by Twitter user HeySoraPark.

The other, which was posted by DestinyBulletn, reveals a brand new arc sniper. This weapon has no name attached to it but does appear to be aesthetically in line with the mech designs of the new armor. This sniper will apparently be coming with the Origin Perk called Search Party with a description that reads, “This weapon is granted faster aim down sights speed and movement speed while aiming down sights when no allies are near.”

Destiny 2 studio Bungie hit by layoffs, internal game delays
A runner runs in Marathon.

Amid a wave of layoffs at Destiny developer and Sony subsidiary Bungie this week, Destiny 2: The Final Shape and Marathon have both reportedly been delayed.
On Monday morning, tweets from developers revealed that Bungie, which was acquired by Sony in January 2022, was suffering layoffs. This was followed up by a report from Bloomberg that went into more detail about the layoffs and their impact on Bungie's future games. Sony and Bungie have not officially commented on the delays yet, although the Bloomberg article mentions that Bungie CEO Pete Parsons will hold a team meeting later today to discuss the layoffs further. This all follows contractor layoffs at Sony studio Naughty Dog earlier this month, which happened as that studio struggles to develop and release a The Last of Us multiplayer game.

Bloomberg suggests that these layoffs, like others at Sony this year, are tied to internal game delays. While Destiny 2: The Final Shape is publicly slated to come out in February 2024, Bungie reportedly told staff that it's now going to come out in June 2024. Meanwhile, we learned that Bungie's revival of Marathon was apparently targeting a 2024 launch -- although no release window was given officially -- but will now come out sometime in 2025. These delays make the PlayStation 5's 2024 game lineup look pretty sparse right now outside of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and it suggests that Destiny 2's next season will be one of its longest.
As of now, Sony and Bungie have not publicly commented on the layoffs or delays, but we will update this post when they do say more about it.

Is Remnant 2 cross-platform?
Three characters shoot at a boss in Remnant 2.

Aside from the focus on firearms and integrating some randomly generated environments, the Remnant series sets itself apart from other souls-like games mainly with its focus on co-op. Both titles encourage you to team up with two friends to fight your way through the mutated monsters that await. After so many years of progress in terms of multiplatform games incorporating full cross-platform support, you might assume Remnant 2 will follow suit and let you make a group with anyone regardless of what platform they're on. However, the truth may be a bit more disappointing. Before you make plans with your squad, here's what you need to know about Remnant 2's cross-platform support.
Is Remnant 2 cross-platform?

Unfortunately, Remnant 2 does not have cross-platform play between PS5, Xbox Series X or PC -- and there's no word about it being added in the future.

The best weapons in Remnant 2
Three characters shoot at a boss in Remnant 2.

While your own personal skill can compensate for a weak weapon in most Souls-like games, including Remnant 2, it is never fun to spend way longer than you need to in fights because you can't output enough damage. Unlike most traditional games in the genre, Remnant 2 features a heavy emphasis on firearms, though there still are plenty of viable melee options. Despite guns not typically having a ton of stats, these have just as many variables to consider for your build as any Dark Souls weapon does, not to mention how it changes with upgrades. Some weapons can be bought, but most you will find and craft by exploring the ever-changing world and completing quests. No one wants to waste precious materials investing in a gun that ends up being useless by the endgame. So, where are the best weapons worth your time in Remnant 2?
Cube Gun

This handgun is easily one of the most powerful you will find in Remnant 2. It is a special weapon, meaning it comes with a mod called Cube Shield, hence the name of this gun. By default, the Cube Gun deals 15 damage, shoots at 7.5 RPS, and has a magazine size of 5 which is all very strong for this weapon type. The mod, however, is why this gun earns its spot on this list. By using Cube Shield, you will create a shield around your character for 15 seconds and absorbs up to 800 damage at level 1. If that wasn't strong enough, if you activate the mod a second time while active, it will send the shield out as a projectile to deal damage to any enemy it hits, with the more damage it has absorbed until then adding to the damage it deals.
