Comme des Garçons has created its own emojis

The brand launches 24 emojis that riff on its iconic PLAY logo

In the space of a few short years, emojis have become integral to the way we communicate – Oxford Dictionaries even named “😂 ” (Face With Tears of Joy) its 2015 Word of the Year. Fashion has been quick to get in on the action: everyone from Karl Lagerfeld and Versace, to Harper’s Bazaar and Jordan Brand have launched their own, and now Comme des Garçons has done the same.

The emojis riff on Comme’s famous PLAY logo, which was originally designed by Polish artist Filip Pagowski. “I remember working on something... not connected to anything,” Pagowski said in an interview with AnOthermag.com. “I got this idea of a red heart with a set of eyes. I drew it instantaneously and the first draft was it. I submitted it for another CdG project, for which it never made it, but eventually it resurfaced; making bigger waves as a logo for the PLAY line.”

Little did Pagowski know that his design would one day be emoji-fied. Launching on the App Store today, the Emoji Comme des Garçons app costs just £0.79 and can be added onto your iMessage keyboard.

This year has brought lots of developments in the world of emojis. Recent additions to the emoji keyboard include a hijab-wearing woman (thanks to 15-year-old Rayouf Alhumedhi), a lady in a steam room, a heavily bearded man, a guy rock climbing, a UFO and a pie.
