The Dallas CASA Children’s Council annually hosts the Cherish the Children benefit luncheon. This year, Dallas CASA honored Betty Regard with the 2024 Caroline Rose Hunt Cherish the Children Award, which recognizes an individual or organization for outstanding contributions to helping children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. The award was inspired by its namesake Mrs. Hunt because of her constant dedication to the most vulnerable in our city and helping people who could not help themselves. Betty Regard served as one of Dallas CASA’s earliest volunteer child advocates and has supported the agency as it grew from ten volunteers in 1980 to more than 1,300 volunteers annually today. She has served on the Dallas CASA board of directors, was one of the founders of the Dallas CASA Children’s Council and is currently a member of the agency’s advisory board. Her deep, personal commitment to children on the margins has spanned more than 50 years. A Dallas native, Regard is a graduate of The Hockaday School, Southern Methodist University and the University of North Texas. She has served on the boards of The Family Place, The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture, Hockaday, Chiapas International and the Dallas Women’s Foundation, among others.
