Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been told their upcoming Netflix projects need to be a "success" if they hope to renew their contract with the streaming giant.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who signed a deal with the streaming giant along with the likes of Spotify after stepping down from their royal duties, have so far released a six-part docuseries about their departure from the Royal Family and a documentary on Harry's involvement with the Invictus Games.

Their work has received mixed reactions, leading to speculation about whether Netflix would extend their contract for another five years. As Meghan and Harry prepare to launch a new lifestyle and cooking show and a documentary exploring the world of polo, commentator Kinsey Schofield emphasised the importance of delivering high-quality content to Netflix.

Speaking to Sky News Australia, the founder of To Di For Daily said: "This is crucial that this is a success, because Harry and Meghan's only commercial hit so far has been their docuseries which basically was hours and hours of the ripping into the British Royal Family," reports the Express.

She added: "So it's very, very important that Meghan's show or Harry's polo program see some similar numbers to the Harry and Meghan docuseries or they risk losing that Netflix gig."

The pair's new show is tipped to feature big names in cooking – including Michael Steed, who helped create Anthony Bourdain’s Emmy-winning Parts Unknown. It has also been filmed in at least two locations – a florist in Montecito, California where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex live with their two children, and a lavish $5 million house a few miles from the family home.

The pair's deal with Spotify previously came to an early end.
