A Cornwall teen climber has been selected to represent Great Britain. Seren-Wednesday Wills has become the first ever climber from the county to be selected to represent the Great Britain Climbing Team.

The 15-year-old from Saltash has been selected to compete for the GB Lead Climbing Team at the Youth World Climbing Championships in China, the Youth European Climbing Championships in France and the European Climbing Cups in Slovakia and Austria.

Seren has been climbing since the age of two and has been participating in competitions for 10 years. In the past decade, she has experienced significant success in the sport, initially winning local and regional events, progressing to national championships and last year being selected to the England Climbing Team. This year's selection to the Great Britain Climbing Team opens the door to international competitions and the Olympic pathway.

The teenager trains five times a week and makes the one hundred miles round trip to train at Exeter Quay Climbing Centre twice a week. In the past six months, she has spent weekends training in Austria, Scotland, Leeds and Sheffield.

“Living in Cornwall is amazing, but it does make accessing training, and competing at national and international events very difficult. Without the support of my sponsors I would never have been able to do it,” said Seren. “Becoming the first climber from Cornwall to make the GB Climbing Team makes me very proud."

Seren has been supported by a number of local and national organisations, to help reduce the huge financial challenges she experiences to train and compete at the highest level, and to help her reach her full potential.

This includes Young and Talented Cornwall, GLL Foundation, Sports Aid ‘Backing the Best’, Adidas Five Ten, Arete, Ropelocker and Kletterkalk.
