The village of Mullion, on the Lizard peninsula, has welcomed its latest food store and is anticipating the soon return of its post office.
Following a £1.4million investment the Co-op has opened its latest store and staff are already getting to know their new customers following the grand opening on Thursday August 16.
Located on Nansmellyon Road, the new store is providing 20 full and part time jobs. It is offering a range of fresh fruit and vegetables, healthy foods, meal ideas, ready-to-go meal deal, award-winning wines, and essentials along with an in-store bakery, cash machine, self-scan tills and paypoint.
“The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum, and our ambition is to ensure the store is a local hub for people living in the area,” said Martin Trethewey, Co-op area manager.
“We also want shoppers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op. Our members make a difference locally and simply by swiping their membership card when they shop with us, they are raising much needed funding for organisations who contribute to improving local life.”
Store manager, Daniel Kitchener, added that the staff are delighted that the Co-op has undertaken such a significant investment in Mullion and are “very proud” to be part of this community.
There are offers and promotions in and around the store to mark its launch. In January, the community retailer unveiled a £50M price investment programme to cut the cost of everyday essentials including fruit, vegetables, bread, fresh meat and ready meals, as well as household brand names.
Students in the area holding an NUS card also receive a 10% discount at the Co-op to support them during their studies.

Meanwhile Mullion Post Office is also set to return to its former premises in the new Co-op store, following the extensive building project. It is understood that unfortunately the Post Office is not yet operational but will open as soon as issues are resolved.
The Post Office closed last September in order for the site to become a Co-op store. However it was always understood that when the building reopened the post office would continue to based at the location. Since then it has been operating as a mobile service.
Lewis Horn, Post Office area network change manager, said: “We are delighted to soon be able to restore a full-time Post Office to Mullion again. Our customers will have very convenient opening hours seven days a week from early until late.
He added: “We want to thank the Postmaster for St Keverne for providing the mobile service and to R.E. Tonkin & Son Funeral Directors for allowing us to park the mobile in their car park, which has allowed us to maintain a Post Office service in Mullion during the extensive building project.”
The new opening hours will be Monday to Saturday 7am – 10pm. This is an extra 36 hours a week than when the branch was located there, including all day Sunday and significantly earlier opening and much later closing.
