A clifftop hotel with its own private beach has been sold to a private investor. The Driftwood Hotel and restaurant just outside Portscatho on the Roseland Peninsula was put on the market for £3m earlier this year after owners Paul and Fiona Robinson announced their plans to retire.

The husband and wife team acquired the hotel in 2002, then known as the Roseland House Hotel, and developed it into the award-winning boutique hotel and fine dining restaurant it has since become. The Driftwood, whose restaurant lost its Michelin star when former head chef Chris Eden left for Gidleigh Park in Devon in August 2019 after 12 years in the kitchen, also announced plans to expand and grow. The restaurant is now led by award-winning chef Paul Green.

The hotel, overlooking Gerrans Bay, has plans in place to create 20 extra hotel bedrooms, an improved bar, lounge and dining area and both tennis courts and a spa for guests at the hotel. The New-England-inspired hotel features 14 comfortable rooms, a three AA rosette restaurant and a three-bedroom owner’s house, along with stunning landscaped gardens and ground of circa 5 acres that lead down to the private beach.

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, who handled the sale have now confirmed that the boutique Driftwood has been acquired by a private investor group.

About the sale, Paul and Fiona Robinson said: "While we have mixed emotions about leaving Driftwood, it has been an amazing journey and we would like to thank all our guests, many whom of have become friends over the years, for their support and of course, our wonderful staff."
