    Robotic Vacuums

New to our ratings, the Eufy Clean G40+ does not disappoint, unless you have a lot of carpet. Its ratings on the carpet cleaning test were only so-so. It does great on bare floors, however, and is almost as good at picking up pet hair. And our technicians found it fairly easy to empty the bin once the Eufy made its rounds. You’ll also appreciate how it navigates a room and ducks under furniture. The Eufy Clean G40+ follows a grid pattern and has WiFi capabilities. Eufy, as a brand, gets top marks in both predicted reliability and owner satisfaction based on our surveys.

If you’re shopping at Eufy, use the code WSPEV2VGO5GN to get the discount.

Shark’s robot vacuums are the only ones that score the highest possible rating for predicted reliability based on CR member surveys, though owners aren’t overly satisfied with them. The Shark AI Ultra RV2610WA uses AI-powered navigational smarts to cover rooms efficiently, and while it rates among the best for picking up pet hair and cleaning bare floors in our tests, it’s only average at sucking dirt from carpet and cleaning edges, with a tendency to scatter debris. It has a pretty small dirt bin, but you won’t have to empty it much—the self-emptying base minimizes your trash pickup duties. This robot vacuum is also on the bulkier side and may have trouble sliding under some furniture.

This model was just on sale for $500, so it may be worth waiting to see if the price dips again.

The budget-friendly Eufy RoboVac 11S struggles to thoroughly clean large areas. But it’s nimble, making it a great option for cleaning a few rooms at a time. One of the shortest and lightest robots that CR has tested, it drives under furniture and wiggles away from hazards like power cords and carpet fringe better than most robots. It’s also quiet, and the cleaning performance is respectable for its price. Eufy makes a handful of robovacs very similar to the 11S, but this is the most basic model and one of the few still available that doesn’t connect to the internet.

    Carpet Cleaners

The Shark CarpetXpert is a strong performer in our tests, with an excellent score for dryness and very good scores in both cleaning and convenience. In terms of noisiness, it’s not the quietest, but it’s on a par with other top models in our ratings. It has a 5-foot hose and a carrying handle, and it covers an area of 24 square feet per tank of solution—a decent range, though it may be more ideal for a one-story home or an apartment. It has two separate tanks for clean and dirty water, and it weighs 18 pounds empty and 23 pounds full—which means its tank fits less solution than the models above, but it also means that even when full, it’s not as heavy as other carpet cleaners. It comes with a handful of brush attachments—a reversible bristle tool, a crevice tool, a pet tool, and a hose-cleaning tool—and two types of cleaning formula.

The Hoover PowerDash Pet Advanced performs very well in all our tests of cleaning, dryness, and convenience, though it’s noisier than the models above. Unfortunately, it lacks a carrying handle, but it weighs 14 pounds when empty and 19 pounds when full, making it fairly easy to maneuver anyway. It cleans just 7 square feet of carpet per tank of solution, but its 8-foot hose gives you lots of room to work without constantly moving the machine. It has separate tanks for clean and dirty water, and it comes with a specialized pet tool attachment.

    Dehumidifiers

The Haier QDHR35LZ medium-capacity dehumidifier is designed to remove 35 gallons of water a day, so it’s best suited for an area of 600 to 800 square feet that’s slightly damp or has a musty smell. Its water removal performance is very good, and it’s fairly quiet. It also earns a top score for energy efficiency. It’s not the most convenient of models, though: Its 10-gallon tank is fairly small relative to its claim to pull 35 pints of water from the air per day. Haier dehumidifiers earn middling ratings for predicted reliability and are unimpressive for owner satisfaction.

The small-capacity hOmeLabs HME020030N can tackle roughly 22 pints of water a day with a tank size that holds 7 pints of water at once. Among its many features are a digital display that’s coupled with a timer, frost control, built-in cord storage, and an alert for when its filter needs cleaning. It earns high scores in our tests when it comes to water removal and humidistat accuracy, showing no discernible flaws in performance. Based on data from our member survey, it gets impressive scores for predicted reliability as well.

    Cordless Stick Vacuums

This powerful, high-end Dyson vac features a laser light on its soft roller powerhead that reveals the dust in its path. The laser feature works best in low light or on dark flooring. A sensor detects the sizes of particles that are picked up and a chart on the display shows the particle count size. In CR runtime tests, the vacuum runs for about 70 minutes per charge on low mode and 8 minutes on high mode.

The Dyson Gen5 Detect excels at vacuuming bare floors and is very good at cleaning carpet and pet hair, and tidying up along the edges. It’s a bit noisy for a cordless, earning a so-so score on the noise test. Plastic combs on the brush roll prevent hair entanglement, and the suction automatically adjusts to the dust in its path. The soft roller has a laser light to help you see dirt ahead. The powerhead has three height settings, which help it pick up larger objects, and there’s an on/off button instead of the typical Dyson trigger. In CR tests, one battery runs for about 71 minutes per charge on low and 8 minutes on the high setting.

    Corded Stick Vacuums

The “Ultralight” moniker for the Shark Vertex Ultralight HZ2002 refers to its light weight (2.9 pounds) when used in hand vac mode (without the stick). The Shark aces our tests for carpet, bare floors, and pet hair, and earns a very good rating for edges. Although not as versatile as a cordless vacuum, this model has a 30-foot cord that is long enough that you won’t have to constantly map out your electrical outlets. Shark corded vacuums earn an excellent rating for predicted reliability and a very good score for owner satisfaction in our member surveys.

    Robotic Mops

The Coredy R750 Pro robotic mop is a hybrid mop and vacuum that can perform both functions at once. (As with other robomops in our tests, we assessed only the mopping function.) In our tests, it notched very good scores in both cleaning and navigation. It is WiFi-compatible and also comes with a remote, so you can operate it from either an app or its remote. This mop uses water as the cleaning agent, and you can control how much liquid it dispenses at a time, which is handy for the dirtiest spots. It traverses the room in a grid pattern and, at just 3 inches high, can easily scoot under furniture and cabinets. Run time is 90 minutes.

The Eufy Clean L35 Hybrid mops and vacuums in a grid pattern. Like all connected models, you can run the Eufy with its app or its remote. It also responds to Alexa and Google Assistant. Cleaning was very good and navigation was in line with all the other robot mops we tested. It has a flat mophead (not spinning), and the pads are reusable and machine-washable (extra are included). Plain water is used as the cleaning agent. You can use the app to set no-go or no-mop zones to avoid carpeting or other obstacles. For an extra $150, you can buy a docking station from which the mop will dispense dirty water and refill with clean water. Run time is 80 minutes, and at less than 4 inches high, this model can squeeze under cabinets and most furniture.

    Air Purifiers

The portable Blue Pure 211i Max, now at the lowest price we’ve seen in months, features an indicator light to alert you when you need to change or clean the filter. It also has a dirt sensor and four speeds. On its higher setting, it’s terrific at removing dust, pollen, and smoke, but expect a bit of noise. Try it on low and you’ll have more quiet while still experiencing top-notch results. This model is designed for use in a large space of 350 to 650 square feet and costs about $109 a year to maintain—just more than half that of the Pure 211+. It also weighs just 17 pounds, making it easy to move around. CR members found Blueair air purifiers highly reliable and were quite satisfied with their purchase.

The Levoit PlasmaPro 600S is a solid performer all-around, clearing the air of dust, pollen, and smoke at both higher and lower settings with great results. It’s noisy while running at a high speed, but it’s relatively quiet at low speeds. That makes it an ideal choice for an office or bedroom. And you don’t have to worry about keeping track of filter changes: An indicator light alerts you when it’s time. This machine also has a dust sensor and programmable timer.

    Steam Mops

The Bissell Power Steamer 2685A proved excellent at cleaning our soiled tile and produced a steady head of steam, rating very well in both that test and in our convenience tests. It has two steam levels, a generous 25-foot cord, and an indicator light that shows it’s ready for use.

The Tineco Floor One S5 earns the top spot for steam mops we’ve rated. The mop aces all our tests for cleaning and steam rate, and gets very good marks for convenience as well. This model is very easy to use—delivering 20 minutes of cleaning time and heating up in 23 seconds. The mop includes a 27-foot cord, the longest cord length in our ratings, which makes it easy to clean hard-to-reach areas.

The PurSteam 10-in-1 Therma Pro 211 Steam Mop gets a top score for cleaning from our testers, and a very good score for steam production. It slips a bit on convenience; its cord is just 16 feet long, and it lacks a ready indicator light. But it’s light (just 6 pounds when filled) and among the less expensive models in our ratings.

    Upright Vacuums

One of the many Sharks in our vacuum ratings, the Shark Rotator Lift-Away ADV DuoClean LA500 rises almost to the top of our bagless upright ratings, acing our tests for bare floors and pet hair and earning a nearly perfect rating in our carpet-cleaning test. The “Lift-Away” in the model name refers to the fact that you can lift the collection bin away from the main handle and use it as a canister. This comes in handy when cleaning stairs and reaching into corners for cobwebs. Airflow is ample, and the Shark comes with several attachments.

While upright vacuums excel at cleaning carpet, the Kenmore BU1018 actually does a bit better on bare floors, which makes it a good option for handling hardwood floors, among other types of surfaces. And if you have a pet, it’s a great pick. This wallet-friendly vacuum also has nice extras like a HEPA filter and a full-bag indicator, and it weighs 21 pounds, which makes it easy to move about.

    Canister Vacuums

The Miele Complete C3 Marin, earns impressive marks in almost every test thrown its way. It’s a champ at bare floors and embedded pet hair, and its emissions are free of debris, earning an Excellent rating in CR’s tests. Its carpet-cleaning capabilities are on a par with the best performers. Its consistent high performance has made it one of our top canisters for several years running.

The Kenmore 400 Series 81414 earns top marks for cleaning bare floors and removing pet hair and is almost as good at cleaning carpet. It gets only an average score for emissions, so if you have allergies, consider a vacuum that scores higher in this test. Suction through the hose is impressive, making this a good choice if you often use attachments. This Kenmore is a bit noisy, though. In our member survey, Kenmore canisters earn solid ratings for both predicted reliability and owner satisfaction.
