Talking Cars 383: Subaru BRZ vs. Toyota GR86
Plus, we discuss important differences between these two nearly identical sports coupes and answer a question about all-weather tires
Main theme: Many people know that the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 are a joint effort between the automakers. The two little rear-wheel-drive sports coupes—which were redesigned for the 2022 model year—are even built on the same assembly line in Japan. But while the two cars are almost identical, there are some key differences that affect things such as how they will perform at your local autocross and how comfortable they are on longer drives. (Spoiler alert: They aren’t that comfortable.) We dive right in with all the details, then we each give our pick as to the one we’d choose if it was our money on the line.
Audience question: Are Consumer Reports’ ratings for all-weather tires and winter/snow tires on the same scale? Meaning, can you compare these two types of tires directly against each other? An audience member who just moved to Vermont wonders whether it’s possible to get away with all-weather tires rather than having two sets of tires.
