Talking Cars 374: Driving the 2023 Toyota Sequoia

Plus, can using gas with 15 percent ethanol damage your car?

Main theme: Toyota finally unveiled its new Sequoia, an enormous three-row SUV that hasn’t been redesigned since the 2008 model year. The new model is based on the Toyota Tundra pickup, which itself was redesigned for 2022. Like that truck, the Sequoia boasts large towing and payload capacities, Toyota’s newest infotainment system, and a rich roster of standard active safety and driver assistance features. We discuss our time behind the wheel—and wonder why Toyota gave the Sequoia just part-time four-wheel drive and a live rear axle instead of improving the independent suspension found on the outgoing version. (Read our Toyota Sequoia first drive.)

Audience question: A gas station was recently advertising a special on unleaded 88-octane gas (15 percent ethanol) for $3.99 a gallon. Would you recommend using this gas instead of regular 87 octane, or are the savings not worth it if it might cause damage to your car down the road?
