Talking Cars 311: Driving the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder
Plus, tips to lessen the pain at the pump, and audience questions about premium fuel, tires, and Tesla
Main theme: We received a big response from our audience about the “favorite cars we’ve ever owned” segment from Episode 309. So we start off this week’s podcast by reading several of your comments about the favorite cars you’ve owned. Also, with summer travel season underway and an unfortunate rise in gasoline prices, we talk about strategies to fine-tune your techniques to maximize fuel economy so that you can make things a little easier on your wallet.

Audience Questions
- My Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve has different horsepower ratings based on whether I use regular or premium fuel. Will I see a big drop in power if I use regular, and is there any danger to switching back and forth between regular and premium?
- I’m considering buying a Tesla Model 3, but I heard that Tesla has removed radar technology from its cars going forward and that certain safety features may be disabled for a short period of time, including forward collision warning. Will this impact the Model 3’s rating by Consumer Reports, and do you think I should treat this as a deal-breaker?
- Is it better to charge an electric vehicle every day, or instead wait until the battery is down to about 20 percent?
- We have a BMW X2 with run-flat tires. These have a little ridge to protect the rim from curbs, in theory. Is it okay to put on wider tires to help better protect the rim?
