Navigating the Art of Professional Boundaries

Presenter: Rachel Vinciguerra, director of national programs, Hello Neighbor

Learn about the importance of managing professional relationships and setting boundaries in your personal and work lives. The session will cover the following topics:

  • Managing up: Understanding how to work effectively with supervisors and managers and how to communicate your boundaries and needs in a professional manner.
  • Knowing your capacity: Identifying your strengths and limitations and learning how to prioritize your workload to avoid burnout.
  • Communicating your boundaries and needs: Developing effective communication skills to clearly express your boundaries, needs and expectations in the workplace.
  • Setting boundaries for your life: Tips and strategies for setting boundaries in your personal life, such as taking email off your phone and managing your time effectively.

The session aims to provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to maintain a healthy work-life balance and build positive, professional relationships. By the end of the session, you will have gained a better understanding of how to navigate professional boundaries, communicate effectively and set boundaries for their personal and work lives.

IronViz Challenge

People have been telling stories for thousands of years. Telling a story with data instead of rattling off numbers or showing a spreadsheet can help put data insights into context for your readers and inspire action from them.

Who tells the best data story? Join us on Thursday, July 25, 2024, as individuals and teams participate in the second annual CMU IronViz challenge to tell the best data story through visualizations and dashboards. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the third annual Data Analytics Day.

Summer Mending Workshop

Fridays, noon to 2 p.m., TechSpark Fab Lab C101, Hamerschlag Hall

TechSpark Makerspace staffer Katrina D'Arms is hosting weekly mending workshops in the TechSpark "Fab Lab" in Hamerschlag Hall.

On Friday afternoons from noon to 2 p.m. through the summer (May 31- Aug. 9), she is available to teach hand and machine sewing and help with repairs and simple alterations. Bring a damaged garment on accessory to repair - no experience necessary.


CMU Pantry Hours

CMU Pantry, Residence on Fifth, 4700 Fifth Avenue, First Floor

The CMU Pantry is a free resource that combats food insecurity by providing food assistance to Carnegie Mellon University students and their dependents. All current CMU students are eligible to shop at the Pantry. Shoppers are asked to reserve times for their visits to prevent overcrowding.   • Mondays: 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Wednesdays: 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.
