All BridgeDetroit content is available, free of charge, to any media enterprise serving the residents of Detroit. BridgeDetroit is designed to serve as a city-wide news wire – a journalistic force multiplier for any Detroit-based media organization that sees the value in leveraging it. The value proposition for participating media partners is free, in-depth, frequent, highly credible, community-driven journalism offerings to their audiences.

Unless otherwise noted, you can republish our articles and graphics for free under a Creative Commons license. Here’s what you need to know:

  • When republishing content, you must add a canonical url to the original BridgeDetroit story you are republishing.
  • You have to credit us — ideally in the byline. We prefer “Author Name, BridgeDetroit.” If your CMS does not allow you to do this, please include a line at the top of the story that reads: “This story was originally published by BridgeDetroit.”
  • If you’re republishing online, you must link to our website, include all of the links from our story, and use our PixelPing tag.
  • You can’t edit our material, except to reflect relative changes in time, location and editorial style. (For example, “yesterday” can be changed to “last week,” and “Detroit, Mich.” to “Detroit” or “here.”)
  • You cannot republish our photographs or illustrations without specific permission (contact us at info@bridgedetroit.com for more information). You may create your own graphics and illustrations if you like, but you must then include attribution that says “Editorial note: This image was created by [insert name of your news organization]. It was not created by BridgeDetroit.”
  • It’s okay to put our stories on pages with ads, but not ads specifically sold against our stories. You can’t state or imply that donations to your organization support BridgeDetroit’s work.
  • You can’t sell our material separately or syndicate it.
  • You can’t use our work to populate a web site designed to improve rankings on search engines, or solely to gain revenue from network-based advertisements.
  • Any web site our stories appear on must include a prominent and effective way to contact you.
  • If you share republished stories on social media, we’d appreciate being tagged in your posts. We have official accounts for BridgeDetroit on both Twitter (@BridgeDet313) and Facebook (@BridgeDetroit).
  • BridgeDetroit reserves the right to request that a media outlet remove BridgeDetroit content from its site if it is not in fitting with this community-driven journalism approach.
