Boston Metal Builds Momentum with Prestigious Accolades

Features Published: May 30, 2024

Boston Metal, a leader in steel decarbonization technology, has earned a place on two prominent 2024 award lists for its patented technology, market leadership and vision of transforming the way metals are made: Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas and TIME100 Most Influential Companies. These honors reflect our commitment to innovation as we commercialize our Molten Oxide Electrolysis (MOE) technology platform to revolutionize steelmaking and advance sustainable metals production.

The transition to a net-zero economy will be metals-intensive, and demand will rapidly grow as both the energy transition and industrialization accelerate around the world. With roughly two billion tons of steel produced every year, accounting for approximately 10% of global carbon emissions, decarbonizing steelmaking is an essential piece of the energy transition. MOE provides the steel industry with a direct, scalable and cost-effective technology for the production of green steel while keeping costs down and creating value throughout the supply chain.

Announced first was Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Awards. This awards program recognizes the organizations developing innovative solutions to the most important issues of our time. We are thrilled for our green steel solution, MOE, to have been selected as the winner of the climate category, which looked at projects designed to limit emissions, reverse global warming, help build resilience or otherwise help solve climate issues. And, just today, Boston Metal was selected for the TIME100 Most Influential Companies list—an expansion of the iconic TIME100 franchise that highlights 100 companies making an extraordinary impact around the world. Boston Metal was selected through a rigorous process in which TIME editors evaluated contenders on key factors including impact, innovation, ambition and success. The result is a diverse group of 100 businesses helping chart an essential path forward. Read more here: Making green steel.

“Being honored by the likes of Fast Company and TIME for our ability to transform steel and metals production shows that the world recognizes just how critical our mission is. This is a testament to our team’s expertise and the role Boston Metal is playing in shaping the next chapter of steelmaking. We are aggressively moving forward to achieve our goal of commercializing MOE for green steel by 2026 to provide the industry with a direct, scalable and cost-effective solution.”
