Structured framework

Our data-driven approach incorporates proprietary research delivered by expert analyst teams from Bloomberg Intelligence (BI) and BloombergNEF (BNEF).

Indices provide direct economic exposure to the underlying theme in a replicable and transparent manner.

Broad range of themes

Indices track electric vehicles, digital payments, renewable energy and more.

STEP 1

Theme Due Diligence and Universe Curation

This process includes document analysis, data scraping and segmentation across a broad data library to develop the full company universe and define key terms, sizing the thematic market opportunity and defining exposure classifications.

STEP 4

Finalize Scores and Company Rankings

Finally, the team estimates scores on a scale from 1 (High), 2 (Medium) and 3 (Low). Our analysts rank companies and review all of the available data in order to make an informed, holistic decision.

STEP 3

Analyze Data and Assign Company Exposure Scores

Exposure scores are assigned to companies included in the theme according to high, medium and low revenue exposure, with scores reflecting either current revenue exposure or estimated exposure in five years, and theme participation determined in the previous step. During this process, BI identifies drivers, key enablers and beneficiaries among the basket.

STEP 2

Set Criteria and Metrics for Three Exposure Scores

During this stage, BI determines revenue exposure and theme participation across the aligned companies. This stage also includes analysis of ESG factors across the companies’ value chain, when applicable. Myriad sources are taken into account, including financial statements, transcripts, public filings, BNEF databases and other third-party vendors.

Electric Vehicles

The Bloomberg Electric Vehicles Index family utilizes proprietary research from BI and BNEF. It aims to represent the performance of a set of companies that are expected to derive significant revenues from electric vehicles, energy storage technologies, autonomous navigation technology, lithium and copper mining, and hydrogen fuel cells.
