Anti-Phishing Certification Test 2024
Each year, we release the results of our phishing protection certification test, which assesses the effectiveness of security products in defending against phishing websites. These malicious sites are designed to steal sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details.
AV-Comparatives Releases 2024 Certified Anti-Phishing Product Reports
AV-Comparatives, an ISO-certified independent security testing lab, has published the results of its 2024 anti-phishing certification test. Phishing, a tactic used to steal confidential login data, remains a significant threat. Attackers create counterfeit versions of legitimate websites, like those for Internet banking, and trick users into entering their credentials through spoofed emails.
To mitigate this threat, many antivirus and Internet security products include phishing protection features. These features should block access to phishing pages and display warnings when users inadvertently click on phishing links.
In 2024, AV-Comparatives evaluated products from fifteen vendors, testing them against over 250 phishing URLs. To achieve certification, a product had to detect and block at least 85% of these phishing attempts. Additionally, a false-positives test was conducted to ensure that the security programs did not mistakenly block legitimate websites, such as Internet banking sites.
Out of the fifteen products tested, eight Windows security solutions achieved certification. These certified products, listed alphabetically, are: Avast, Bitdefender, ESET, Fortinet, Kaspersky, McAfee, NordVPN, and Trend Micro.
