    Queer Film Theory: Action Movies

Who doesn’t love hot sweaty movie stars tussling with robots, beasts, and – what else – toxic masculinity? Join four queer film “professors” as they dissect their favorite action movies for hidden homosexual agendas – but in a fun way, we promise!

    Queer Magic the Gathering Night

Are you LGBTQ and a fan of Magic? Have you never picked up a card but your gay spirit yearns to build a deck? Do you reject the temptations of Yu-Gi-Oh! and its many big-haired idols? Then you may find yourself among friends at this weekly meetup of queer Magic: The Gathering players. Welcome are the dedicated, the lapsed, and the newbies these Thursday nights – even those sans cards can participate. Masks, however, are required, but they’ve got spares if you forget yours at home. – James Scott
    Thursdays, 7-10pm. Free but RSVP.

    Queer Movie Night: Moonlight (2016)

Not just a queer classic, but a cinematic one as well, Barry Jenkins’ 2016 masterpiece follows Chiron, a young Black man growing up in Miami, navigating masculinity and his queer identity with the help of his community. Presented by Queer Black Women Alliance and Breathe With Pride, the screening will be introduced by queer mental health nonprofit WhatsintheMirror?, while local orgs Texas Harm Reduction Alliance, allgo, and Clear the Air ATX will provide resources, including an air purifier. Doors open at 6pm (movie starts at 7:15) and Austin’s premier nonalcoholic purveyors, Sans Bar, will be slinging mocktails. – Lina Fisher

    Riot Fair

I’ve analyzed the projections and looked at all the research: My conclusion is rock solid. Yes, I’ve concluded that this Thursday night on Fourth Street will be a riot … for Riot Fair, that is. Tear down the house with host Riot Girl, cast members Titty Androgynous & Venus Rising, and DJ Ruby Knight. Their drag spectacular will shock white streaks in your hair, spin your chair, and make you shout – as will the nice early start time of 8:30pm. Look, sometimes you need to riot responsibly on a school night! – James Scott
    Thursdays, 8pm. 18+, $10; 21+, free.
