    WORLD'S GORGEOUS PHONE!!!

    WORLD'S GORGEOUS PHONE!!!
I immediately put Nova Launcher on it. The pixs aren't Note 8 but definitely decent enough. It's so unbelievably fluid...my note 8 lagged so bad and started with the infamous rebooting for no reason. I factory reset 3 times and had issues---even took it back for replacement...to no avail...the speakers are better with the Xiaomi ...much more responsive...absolutely no lag and battery lasts forever!!! So far I've gotten 6hrs screen on time ..I'm so impressed!!! I absolutely love the big screen but small form factor ...impressive feat in itself----makes it more manageable!!! Beautiful design and screen ..doesn't bother me its not Amoled.....I'll take the longer battery life over that anyt day! If anyone is on the ledge about getting this...I gave up my note 8 for this and I have no regrets. Buttery smooth....wow...seriously...I'm hard to impress...but they did!!!!! Word to the wise to protect this beautiful beast....get your cases first!!!!

First I must say that I am cheap. I appreciate quality but I hesitate to pay for it. My last phone was the galaxy S7 I got on a 2 for 1 promo that happened to coincide with the last time my wife and I needed new phones. That was an extravagance for me.

The S7 cursed me. I loved that phone. It was well made with tons of great features and after I broke it I was I was loathe to spend the money necessary to get something of equivalent quality. I did not want to spend $600-$700 on a new phone, but I also didn't want anything less that what I was using.

After much research I found the xiaomi mi mix 2. I couldn't believe the specs that came with a mid-range price. I checked review after review that assured me that this is was it claims a cheap but power phone.

After a few weeks of use I love it. Here is why:

    1) The beautiful display It is larger than the S7 and just as crisp.

    2) The fingerprint scanner is very responsive I can't believe how quick it is to the unlock and power on the screen. I frequently use my phone as a roku remote and I love how quick I can get to it. (especially when I need to get my kids attention. A near impossibility when a show is on.)

    3) With so much RAM and such a fast processor, I have had no trouble running any apps. Even apps that caused my S7 to heat up, run cool as a cucumber on this phone.

    4) The battery life is incredible. After heavy use I would find that I would need to recharge at least once during the day with my S7. With the mi mix 2 I have rarely needed more than the nightly charge. It also recharges super quick.

A few reasons why I miss my S7:

    1) Waterproofing. I enjoyed not worrying about rain, snow, or minor spills with the S7. I miss that peace of mind.

    2) Wireless charging. Another of the extravagances of the flagship models. I got myself a wireless charger and loved not having to fish around the USB port to plug it in. But in defense of the mi mix it does have USB C which isn't so bad.

Over all. I am feel that this was far more phone than I payed for. A great deal and a great phone.

I will write a full review in a day or so. I just wanted to write a quick initial review for those who may be considering this device.

I am very happy with this phone. You don't have to be technically inclined to use it. I am technically inclined so there is added value I will mention later.

Specs are really nice for the current price. You won't find anything close for the price. Updated to latest MiUi that has Android Oreo as it's base. Very stable and fast OS with extra features. MiUi is an Android skin or layer on top of Stock Android 8.0. Of all the skins I.e. TouchWiz from Samsung and the like MiUi is the best although I certainly prefer stock Android.

Screen is very nice for ips LCD. Sound could be a little louder but still very nice for a phone. Internal storage is ufs 2.1 which is fast. Screen to body ratio is excellent. Feels like a 2018 phone.

Build quality is excellent and the ceramic back is very nice. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s will be released in two weeks and is an incremental upgrade. For me I would rather save money as the Mi Mix 2 is only 6 months old.

The only con I have is lack of earphone jack.

This phone with 6" screen is smaller than my other phone with 5.5"screen. Impressive.

Highly recommend. Seller shipped fast and product was brand new in sealed package.

The Chinese phone company that gets all the hype in the United States is One Plus which is very unfortunate. One Plus is a Chinese phone company that makes such a poor product they sell virtually no phones in China. The hype surrounding One Plus phones is mostly manufactured and stage managed by One Plus and it is entirely undeserved. Huawei and Xiaomi both make far superior phones. Don't believe anything positive you read in reviews or press about One Plus because they solicit positive reviews in exchange for free phones and publish them on accommodating websites including tech sites as unbiased professional reviews. There are only two things anybody actually needs to know about their phones. The first is that if you don't plan on running a custom ROM don't even consider a One Plus phone. The second is never buy any phone One Plus releases in Spring. The reason for the latter is because in the Fall One Plus will release an improved T version of the Spring phone for around the same price and the resale value of the Spring phone is destroyed after 6 months because nobody will want it anymore. The resale value of the OP3 and OP5 is less than half the 3T and 5T because nobody wants to buy the inferior versions without the T in the name. But enough about One Plus.

Xiaomi has had fans in the United States for a while even though their phones needed to be purchased from grey market sites like Gear Best and Alibaba where returning them is very expensive if not completely impossible and even though Xiaomi phones provided limited or no band support for LTE in the United States since the phones were never intended to be sold or used here in the first place. The Xiaomi Mix 2 is the first phone they have offered with full LTE band support in the United States. Even the upgraded Mi Mix 2S lacks this unless you purchase the "king variant" with 256GB of memory.

It would be nice to report that the Mi Mix 2 is a home run but ultimately it's more like a triple. It's a very solid phone for the price but a couple of flaws keep it from being great.

The Mi Mix 2 is a gorgeous and striking phone with a ceramic body and steel frame. You can't use the words gorgeous or striking when describing a One Plus or Pixel phone. The phone is just so nice looking you will probably be tempted to use the phone completely naked or possibly with a very slim clear case. The materials help to give the Mi Mix 2 its unusual look and also provide a heft that makes the phone feel like a very premium device. But the unusual materials come with their own benefits and problems.

The Essential PH-1 also has a ceramic body and is a gorgeous looking phone. But the ceramic material interferes significantly with signal reception, making the phone virtually unusable for some people. The Mi Mix 2 doesn't have that problem because Xiaomi reportedly uses a special kind of ceramic that provides better signal penetration than aluminum or glass, the two materials used most commonly for cell phones these days. The cell reception on the Mi Mix 2 has indeed been stellar everywhere I have gone. I use Mint Mobile (a T-Mobile MVNO) daily and so far the reception couldn't possibly be better. I also tested this phone on the AT&T network using a Straight Talk SIM. AT&T provides the most spotty cell coverage of the big four where I live but the Mi Mix 2 matches the AT&T reception of my Pixel XL which is basically as good as you can get.

Ceramic is nearly impossible to scratch and can't be dented. But it is also a lot more slippery than aluminum or glass and if you drop this phone the ceramic body can crack so you might want to think twice about using the Mi Mix 2 without a case. If you are prone to dropping your phone you might want to skip this phone completely, although any phone with an edge to edge display is more prone to damage from a drop than phones with bezels on all four sides.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 isn't a camera phone on par with the best that Apple, Pixel and Samsung have to offer but it does take pretty good pictures that will probably be more than good enough for most smartphone users. It actually takes better pictures than my One Plus 5 even though the OP5 has much more powerful camera hardware. But if using your phone to take very high-quality pictures is very important then this definitely isn't the right phone. I'm satisfied with the pictures but I use a digital camera if I need high-quality photographs, not my phone.

If you are accustomed to large screen phones then the Mi Mix 2 is very comfortable to hold. The Mi Mix 2 has a larger screen than the Pixel XL or OP5 (5.99" compared to 5.5" for both) but the Mi Mix 2 is actually smaller than either of those phones because of the very high screen to body ratio. The rear fingerprint sensor works well. The power and volume buttons are located on the upper right side of the phone, are easy to locate by touch and feel very solid. The USB-C charging port on the bottom also feels solid but unfortunately, there is no headphone jack.

The IPS LCD display is the main thing that keeps the Mi Mix 2 from being a great phone. The display doesn't look bad by any means but is pretty much the definition of good enough. The colors aren't as rich or contrast as striking as an AMOLED display and the sharpness doesn't come close to QHD. You might not notice the difference unless you hold it side by side with another phone but the display is an area where Xiaomi could have done better.

To be fair when streaming HD video on the Mi Mix 2 you don't see any pixels, the playback is smooth and the colors look natural. The display is easy to see even in bright sunlight. Games look nice and similarly play without visible pixels or artifacts, providing very smooth visuals. The Mi Mix 2 display does absolutely everything that it has to and does it fine but people accustomed to very rich colors or extremely sharp resolution might not be satisfied with the good enough display on this phone.

The Mi Mix 2 has a bottom firing speaker that sounds tinny and when it comes to the phone ringing or notifications sound doesn't seem to carry very far--although the Mi Mix 2 is more than loud enough for playing games or listening to music. This might be because the phone is designed to also utilize the earpiece speaker when playing media to create a more immersive stereo-effect sound.

Xiaomi phones (except for the MI A1) run a custom Android skin called MIUI that gets a very bad rap from Android purists. After using MIUI 9 for a few weeks I actually find myself pleasantly surprised--MIUI is almost shockingly fast and smooth. The Mi Mix 2 is easily the smoothest, most responsive phone I have owned since the Pixel XL. It completely blows away both my One Plus 5 and Essential PH-1 in terms of overall smoothness. It's definitely a pleasure to use. I'm not a fan of the stock MIUI launcher which includes no app drawer but that is easily remedied by using a custom launcher like Nova, Action or Rootless Pixel launcher to provide a more familiar Android feel.

MIUI includes a feature you won't find on stock Android that is very appealing--native theming. You can download lots of themes for free and apply them to your phone--and if you don't like it switch to a different theme in seconds. What gets themed? Pretty much every aspect of MIUI--the lockscreen, homescreen, icon pack, user interface, status bar and even the system font. If you use the built-in MIUI Launcher the home screen theme will usually include a fancy widget that displays some combination of the day, date, time and weather. If you use a custom launcher the widget doesn't apply but you still get everything else from the theme. Most of the themes are very bright and colorful (MIUI was designed primarily for customers in China and India) but there are also dark themes for people like me. I'm currently running a theme called Simple Black that I like a lot but tried an assortment of themes before I found the one I settled on.

The Mi Mix 2 I received shipped with Android Nougat but updated to Oreo shortly after I signed in for the first time. If your phone ships with Nougat as well I highly recommend that you don't download any personal apps until after the phone updates. Once the update is complete factory reset your phone and then download your apps. I discovered that some things in MIUI worked better or differently after I did the factory reset which really isn't unusual for any Android phone after a big OTA like Nougat to Oreo.

The Global Version of MIUI that's preinstalled comes with the Google Play Store and some Google apps already preinstalled and you can download any missing ones that you use right from the Play Store which shows the status of certified just like phones that are sold officially in the United States. Global MIUI also runs perfectly in English with no strange wording or Chinese language menus popping up anywhere--which is definitely not the case if you ever ran Chinese MIUI in English.

The Mi Mix 2 isn't perfect but it's been a very long time since I owned an Android phone that I enjoyed using this much. Considering that those other phones include the Pixel XL and One Plus 5 which both cost me significantly more than the Mi Mix 2 makes this phone feel like an absolute bargain. Hopefully Xiaomi will release more phone models in the future that are fully compatible with cell service in the United States but until then the Mi Mix 2 makes for a very good start.
